Re: Maintenance Schedule

The maintenance schedule for the Aqua Hot is service the burner once per year. This includes changing the filter, the fuel nozzle, cleaning the combustion chamber, cleaning the burn chamber where the U-channels are located, cleaning the flame sensor, general wipe down of ignitor points, photo disc, and the pan under the burner, checking ignitor point gap and putting it back together without pinching any wires or snapping off the ears on the burner case by over tightening the J-bolts.
Once this is done, the burner will fire with a robust roar, no smoke or vapor and very little smell at the exhaust. Having done this, one needs to run the diesel burner once per month, every month. Doing so will allow one to put annual maintenance off for 2 to 3 years as the exhaust will stay clean and no smell.
But many owners park the coach and let it sit for weeks and weeks not to mention months which makes annual maintenance necessary to keep the burner firing correctly.
In addition, the coolant tank needs to be checked every quarter to be sure the tank is full to the radiator cap. If the overflow tank is kept full each time the burner cycles off and one sees the over flow tank level rise as the burner heats the coolant up, the tank is full. I the overflow tank does not change its level, open the radiator cap and top off the tank. Distilled water can be used up to 2 gallons. Older coaches can use 50/50 enginer antifreeze while newer ones need GRAS boiler antifreeze. You can tell if you have an older one by looking beside the burner for 3 clear relays and a row of fuses above them. If they are not there, then you need AGRAS boiler antifreeze.
While checking the boiler tank, look at the overflow hose connection at the radiator cap hose barb. The hose should be supple, not hard, with no splits and have a hose clamp.
As a side note, if your Aqua Hot heater is mounted in the middle of the coach, you can use engine antifreeze. It is you folks with side mounted, much easier to get to heaters, that have to know which one you have. The easy clue for you all is there is a big black electronic control board with LED lights which means GRAS boiler fluid.
