Generator Breakers

8 KW PowerTech

The control box in this generator has two 35 amp circuit breakers. On this trip, one of those breakers has tripped twice. Not sure what's going on but I thought first thing I'll just replace both breakers and eliminate them as a problem. I haven't taken the top off the box yet. Are they just common breakers that I can pick up at the hardware store? Thanks.

Great example of the use of a amperage reading meter to see what you are actually loaded at. Yes breakers do get old and they are only rated for the first trip. After there first trip they typically trip at a lower value. Never hurts to change them other than the pocket book effect.

Exactly as Scott says.  Like all of us, as they get older they lose a bit of their strength.  Twenty plus years old and all the vibration being mounted to the diesel generator, the deserve to be retired (replaced).
