Generator Maintenance

My maintenance schedule said it was time to check the fan belt.  I don't look forward to it because it requires removal of the fan shroud.  This time I was able to just loosen all three bolts providing enough clearance to snake the belt out for examination.  It turned out the belt was fine but it did need to be tightened.
While up under behind the generator I found a flexible cooling duct that had split and was able to repair it with duct tape.  So the effort was not entirely wasted.
The last item on my to do list is valve adjustment at the 2000 hour point.  Does anyone have any tips for that work?  It looks like I can see the TDC mark without removing the fan shroud again.  Do you find much adjustment is needed?
Does anyone check fuel injectors on a scheduled basis?

Can't help with your questions, but if there is insulation/sound dampner on the inside of the shroud, I recommend you remove it. The insulation on mine fell off (adhesive failed) and jammed the crank pulley/balancer causing it to separate and also shredding the belt. I could detect no noticeable difference in sound with or without the sound dampner.

Checked mine at around 1400 hours,only had to adjust a couple,all depends on how hard the engine was run and somewhat on which oil was used and when it was changed.If the engine is running good I see no reason to "check" a injector,run some injector
cleaner thru the tank.If you actually take a belt off to check for the price I would change it.

You don't need to see TDC to adjust the valves, ust put the opposing cylinder in overlap and adjust the valves on that cylinder then repeat on the other three cylinders. Does not apply to 3 cyl engines.
