Urethane boots for tie rod/drag link ends.

Our drag link end boots were gone, so I used Prothane 191828 as a replacement. (Pic 1) Prothane 191828 Ball Joint Dust Boots | Prothane Suspension Parts

They are a tight fit, but I got them on with little fanfare.
With a little grease on the stud shank, and a spacer made from a 1" PVC box fitting, the ID goes over the shank and holds the boot in position to aid getting the lip around the housing. I used an awl to work the lip over the dry housing. (Pics 2 & 3)
To help keep the lip sealed to the housing, I used some .062 stainless safety wire. (Pic 4) Using the wire was a PITA, and not the best solution, due to the wire breaking before I had the desired level of tension. I wanted to use 1/4' band & buckle clamps, as are used on CV joint boots, but didn't have anything suitable on hand. I'll replace the wire clamps once I have some suitable band clamps.

Looks good,my opinion is,if your going to disassemble that far you might as well change the whole joint for a few bucks and a little more work,the joint can't be that much farther away from wear then the boot.
