Generator wont run one AC ?

The Gen set has been running the front AC for the 4 years that we have had the bus.  Sitting on a nice warm afternoon with both running, my daughter in law turned the AC switch to a postilion between  any option, so that the AC  simply hummed. ( It was too cold).
Now  The Gen set runs perfect without the AC switched on. proper volts at 116 etc.  Switch the AC to cool and the Genset acts like it has a dead intermittent short . Starting and shutting off for an instant continually every 15 seconds or so .
The AC works fine on high cool  but not low cool,  when plugged into 15 amp 12/3  home cord.
Any thoughts?  Thanks as always. MM

Mike, I can't help with your problem, but I solved a similar problem years ago.
We went to visit our daughter and her family in Canton, Ohio. I went around turning on all the lights and leaving them on. Then into the bathroom and kitchen and turned on the hot water faucets. Then opened the windows and turned the AC on.
Daughter asked me what I was doing.
My reply? Getting even.
Never had the problem with her and her family again.

I second the motion.  Failed start or run capacitor are the likely cause and the cheapest thing at which to throw parts.

Mike,

If she turned the switch in a half way position the switch could have the contact for low speed burnt to ground. Just something else to look at.
