Portable Freezer for Alaska

Our 34' FT will be making a future trek to Alaska where we want to be able to bring fish back home. The refrigerator/freezer in our 34' is barely enough for our use while traveling and we don't want to sacrifice our separate Uline ice maker.

The Dometic units found in 36' and beyond are too big so here's our parameters:

1.  15" (driver side) to 20" (passenger side) high x 16"wide x 26" deep.  I'd prefer to store driver side but rollout storage box limits height to 15".  20" will work on passenger side
2.  One zone freezer or fridge but not dual zone
3.  12 or 120v operation
4.  Must be able to maintain 0 degrees in Florida heat

Happy to get suggestions. Thanks

Great suggestion. I had been looking at the 12/120v models but this may be an alternative with our lithium's and solar.

You pay a premium for dual voltage operation. Those 12V refrigerated coolers can cost $1000 or more.

The new small 120V fridges and freezers use very efficient compressors now-a-days to get the best energyStar ratings.

My daughter and I are putting in this $167 fridge in her SUV camper build. I have been testing it and it draws about 50 watts and once cold it cycles about 50% so avg of 25 watt draw. This is about 50 AH per day, her solar will easily support this.

Randy,

YES, you will need a freezer. Having lived in Alaska (mid 1970's), we miss the fish.

Please let us know when to come pick them up (unless  we are still in Angel Fire).

Might be an excuse to get together when we're back in Florida in November. Any suggestions on where best to get fish?

We bought something kind looked like the prior post from amazon, was built for 12 V had a 110 converter ?? Don't trust those things but it did us well when we holed up early CV 19.  In 120v.  As A freezer.  At our 'hovel, home".
We then as  cv 19  cooled, put on the pas side on the slide out, wired it to the basement lighting, very seldom used, mostly LED now, 15amp fuse think it is happy,  brings to mind perhaps need to re think that,  my memory [unit] needed maybe 2 amps another  project.

Bottom line, outstanding close to 2 yrs, had it at zero F or close.  Today it is keeping the white wine, beer, soft drinks, water at 33f.  Such a pleasant device.  Maybe $400..don't remember exact..  lot of comfort, "low" $$s

Enjoy,

Agree on the first part.

Sadly, you will never be able to drive where we lived and fished when we lived there-- NO ROADS!

We lived in the capitol-- Juneau. No roads, as the city backs up to an Ice Field. No roads across the glacier.

But fishing is generally pretty good on the Kenai.

Randy, you might consider a small 12 volt freezer for the car!  Just an idea, as we can put our 100 lb Dometic in the car, as it just fits and plug the freezer into the receptacle that is located there.  We have the Chevy Equinox and it has no more room than what you have in your jeep.  Just a thought!

We recently purchased one of these.  I don't understand why price is inversely proportional to the size. We bought the big one (65l) and it fits in our joey slide out. We must slide it all the way out to open the lid. It can be configured for freezer or refrigerator temps or a combination. It has the Danfoss compressor.
