Heater Blower Motor 1997 U320

Hi all,

We are in what seems like a pretty good diesel truck stop that was nearby when our dash heat failed completely on Friday. W are in Alberta, Canada, at the foot of the Rocky Montains, and it is WAY below freezing, so really need defrost to clear the windows to move at all. Used a seven year old post from the forum to help them expose the heater, but it is hard to see anything once you get this far.

Seems like the blower motor is likely the problem, but where is it and how do you get there? Does the whole assembly have to be removed, or is there an easy way to get to it?

Hoping forum members can provide a speedy reply to save all the slow searching by the techs.

If you PM me a phone number I will call when I get out of the VA Eye clinic. Looks like it will be a while.
On my '95 I was able to change the motor without breaking the Freon lines.

Jack after the HIVAC box is loose they may be able to move the box toward them and rotate the right side toward the door and up giving enough room to get the blower assembly out over the forward left corner of the box without breaking the Freon lines. I had to take the hoses off the heater core.
My blower assembly was held to the HIVAC box with four #3 Phillips machine screws.
Fortravel quoted 10 hours to do it.

Make sure you have power to the motor before you remove it as there is a speed control for the motor that can fail also.

John, looks like FT made things even tighter in there between 95 and 97, but they seem to be closer to access now.

Craneman, point noted and passed along to tech who was aware.

About all HVAC blower motors have a main fuse (12 V DC) at the fuse panel. Then they use a low speeds relay and a hi speed relay.  This is a very simplified description, but if you have the chassis manual with you, find the wiring diagram for the chassis hvac and verify first, However, the blower motor just might be the culprit. They seem to just fart and fall at the most inoportune times!!!!

i am located in Alberta. Did you use your aqua hot throughout your stay?  Did it work well.?
