Check where the chrome top meets the pipe at the rear real close. Mine looked good but was cracked across the top. I know of another one that broke completely and cause a good bit of damage.

Rick, it is the inside rusty chambers that you cannot see where exhaust flow restrictions reduce engine power to the wheels. Besides the original OEM mufflers are by design have some power restriction. Follow the preventive rule of 'doing it before it needs to be done'. No fun having a muffler, hanger or exhaust pipe fail while on a trip.

Any one have the part number for a muffler.  here in Canada I'm  having problems finding parts or part number. Foretravel just don't exist up here every part shop I talk too don't know what I'm talking about can't help me , I don't have any information on the running gear or drive train tell them it a Foretravel they never heard of it and if I get it from the U S.  customs at the border nail me for an extra $100 or more on Brokerage  fees and the Exchange rate on the money . the muffler was  already replace by previous owner I went over it, it looks solid  I've put over $40,000 in repair and preventive maintenance where do you draw the line, bulkhead , fuel line, including transfer pump and steel tubing  lines,  steering box, engine tuneup adjusting engine valves, radiator replacement and all the coolers replacement, and hoses replaced all hydraulic lines Batteries,  battery isolator, leveling valves and now going over the brakes trying my best to make sure everything is in a1 shape  I had the cummins shop check for codes they told me that the Engine computer was 28 updates behind  so they did the up dates trying to make sure I don't have any  break downs  I've been trying to buy  koni shock  8805 1010 here in Canada can't  find them or a replacement for them. I  just ordered 2 seal kits for the HWH PLUNGERS to service the six packs . Everything is working good but I have a 21 year old coach and don't want to be 3000 miles from home with a break down and have no control over the situation , that happened with the steering box in Florada ended up being a $4000 job and out of a coach for two weeks 2500 miles away from home I love my coach it looks and drives like a Dream having fun with it but where do I draw the  line . I do al of the work myself and in joy working on my coach but I ask again where do you draw the line

Forget the muffler and go straight pipe. The turbo muffles sound to some degree.
More power and more fun , and less heat in the muffler area.  We actually had some delamination because of heat there.

You can get a Jones xl on Amazon for under 150 usd. Looks exactly the same as the aero 5050 mentioned above but cheaper and it's fairly easy to install. The reason I thought is was on its last leg was it looked like there was a few small holes in the outlet pipe just before the clamp

Rick. Go to the search function and put in resonator.  I have an article in there and did it myself  as others have done. I did not go the fancy stainless route but used a common Wilson one for $75. Some bits and pieces and stainless flex tube and couple of hangers and you are done,  simple.

Cape if you have the 8.3 you don't want the Jones 50/50 unless you have a 5" exhaust coming out of turbo
If you do have the 5" then 50/50 is fine if not go with the size you have coming out.  The 50/50 stands for 5" inlet and 5" outlet
But whatever you use I would recommend the XL it is a longer resonator.  The whole purpose of resonator or straight pipe is to get heat away from engine.  I have been told that it would increase HP 5 to 10% but I have no proof of that.  On our coach it will spool up faster on takeoff.

That's true, my u320 has a 5" exhaust, I think a 4" is 4040xl

On my 8.3 I had 4 inch from turbo to the muffler, BUT my muffler was a 5 inch in and a 5 inch out. The 4 inch going into muffler had a piece of 4 inch ridge pipe that was expanded to fit into the 5 inch muffler. Then I had 5 inch from muffler out to tail pipe. We reused the piece that went from 4 to 5 inch. Be sure what you have before you order parts !!!! I have a idea that maybe Foretravel only bought one size muffler or could have run out of 4 inch mufflers on mine. If you have 5 inch tailpipe and 4 inch turbo I would look real close at the muffler as a transition place.
I hope this makes since.
Just my two cents.

Also suggest carefully reading the specs on different mufflers/resonators before you buy.  Some mufflers advertised as 5" in and out actually have a 4" bore down the center.  To save money, the manufacturer uses the same muffler body, then adds different size inlet and outlet pipes.

If the internal flow size is important to you, be sure you are getting what you pay for!

mine was all 4 inch exhaust from the factory.  after the flex pipe i expanded
to 5", and used the 5050xl.  i had to expand the hole in the fiberglass to
accommodate a new 5" chrome tip. i did this several years ago, and it is still
good.
i did run a straight pipe for a few months, but it was way to loud.

Our c8.3 has 4" exhaust including turbo. We prefer the shorter & wider Aero as it gave us more space to make the curve from turbo pipe to muffler and then curve our way back to fiberglass tailpipe hole. Shorter was better for us and there is more then enough space to accommodate the wider resonator.

We did not remove the long 4" pipe from the turbo.  4" to 5" adapters allowed us to use the 5" Aero. We used a 4" tailpipe and did not make the fiberglass hole larger.

Mine is 4" straight pipe all the way out. Been a year now definitely runs cooler, spools up quicker, seat of the pants says a bit more power. Sounds loud at first, in reality never notice it now, never had anyone complain, 15 thousand miles later. Glad I got rid of the trash can muffler.

Noone has ever complained about my straight pipe. In fact, I get a lot of compliments. It sounds awesome and is loud, especially the jake brake, but its a good loud.

I'm glad I skipped any kind of muffler. Also like all the room I have to work on things in that area.
