Toilet replacement

I'm replacing the toilet in my 1991 Grand Villa.  The current toilet is on a box about 9" high.
I want to lower it about 5" to accommodate the height of the new toilet.
Is the toilet flange and pipe glued into the holding tank or does it slide into a
Grommet to seal it into the tank.
Has anyone done this operation?

Watching this post, I replaced our toilet with a lower model and still think it's to high.

When a toilet is on the floor, it indicates the toilet sits over the black tank. And often the box under a toilet indicates the toilet is not over the black tank and an angled ABS pipe is in the box to facilitate flow.
