Deeper steps?

Has anyone redone the entry steps so that the back of the steps are open to make them deeper?  Naturally I mean the back is closed but made to be deeper, at least 12" or more.
I find that going in and out I do so at an angle so I have a full foot on each step.

There is another way to approach your issue.
Trim your toes and buy new shoes!

Behind the risers is steel. You could add to the front- but that bottom step would really be narrow and a safety hazard

There is really nothing behind the area. Would be a project to cut out the old and build new frame for the steps.

I think a pie shaped cutout adding zero at the top and say three inches at the bottom wouldn't need any sub structure added. Basically would slope the back of the step and allow a bigger footprint. All of the interior covering would become non standard and would have to be custom and and hand fitted. Will also need to be waterproofed and undercoated on outside.

Don't forget the step cover. Above that is a steel plate that spans the area above the step cover but under the floor. I think it is a quarter inch thick. The step well is framed with square steel tubing.
