Splendide Washer/Dryer gave up the ghost!

Well, here we are in Yellowstone and now the washer/dryer has decided to not work properly.  Called Spendide and they informed me that parts are no longer available for our unit, a 2000!
So, got on line and ordered the new and improved 2300 from PPL out of Houston.  Removed the old unit today and finally found out where the electric cord plugs in.  Under the closet next to the unit.  Fun fun!  Getting the unit out was interesting, buit it fit between the chairs on the way out and had to do some finagling to do this!  It is now sitting out side of the coach waiting for its new brother!  DW will be happy!
It still washes, but the dryer blower motor is non operative and no more available.  Oh well, this new one will be larger and according to many, much quicker in drying, etc.  We shall see!

Joe,

We had MoT install a Splendide 2200XCD last January.  Our coach had not had a washer/dryer previously.  With great effort they managed to get the unit in the front door but were unable to get it through the forward bathroom doorway.  They had to take it back out and put it in through the bedroom window.  Measure it carefully before you wrestle it in the front door and through the galley.

I had no way to compare this model to earlier models but I was astounded at how quiet it is.  I had to go back and look at it a time or two to assure myself that it was actually running.

Good luck with your new W/D.

Thanks Richard, but it is suppose to be the same size!  HOPE!  I did have fun getting it past the fridge, since we have a residential now and it sticks out a little further!  The front door was no problem, but getting it by the two captain chairs proved a challenge!  I didn't have help until I got it to the front door and was tilting it down the steps.  Fun fun!  Now that the other one is outside, I will remeasure it and make sure all is the same with the new 2300!  DW will be excited!

I looked at the data sheets for both the 2100XC and the 22000XCD and the dimensions are practically identical with the 2200 being only 1/16" wider but exactly the same front to back. I got it in through the front and through the bathroom door. I don't remember having that much of a struggle, but perhaps the front and rear sliding doors are different widths on the 99' U320 VS. the 99' U270 because of the slightly different floor plan. Interesting...

For those of you who are planning on removing your washer/dryer for whatever reason, the electric cord is mounted under the closet floor.  The floor of the closet is made to lift up and access the electric as well as the two faucets for the machine.  I just shut ours off at the manobloc.  The hoses are made to allow you to pull the unit from the cavity with little issues, so this is an easy do it yourself project if you wish to save some bucks!  Will follow up with the new install once it arrives!

If u get a 4 wheel furniture dolly like at Harbor Fright it will have the W/D at about the right height for it to just slide in. I also suggest to take the door latches off at the top to give you a little extra room. The dolly makes it easy to get it around in position too,
Just my two cents

Joe,

One other thing.  The dryer exhaust vent exited the back of the 2200XCD in a different location than the Splendide's that the guys at MoT were used to.  When they slid the XCD onto the platform the vent aligned right even with a horizontal steel structural piece in the wall.  The solution was to lower the floor of the closet several inches.  There appeared to be no real reason for the floor of that closet (the forward one) to be so high as the water pipes and electrical wires running under there only required a couple of inches for clearance.

Moral of the story:  Check carefully where the vent exits the dryer, it may be different from your previous W/D and require some creative re-engineering.

Amazon.com: COMFEE' 1.6 Cu.ft Portable Washing Machine, 11lbs Capacity Fully...

Been thinking about this model. Since my w/d cabinet is stuffed full of lithium batteries and an inverter/charger this would fit iny closet, right above the water and electrical outlet. Alot less than the splendid too.
Just a thought at this point. Joe good luck on the install.

I too had to lower the floor in the closet to install my 2100X combo.  As my coach had a diagonal steel wall brace that I found with a small magnet.  The platform floor supports were all that were changed, to drop the floor to allow the new vent hole to be cut and to miss the wall steel.

I have really enjoyed the combo.  BUT, as I used it, the dryer became slower and slower to dry.  2.5 years ago, I removed the top and the back, after tipping the unit inboard, and was able to remove the rubber discharge hose inside the unit.  It was clogged more than 60%.  Fast forward to May this year, and again, very poor drying times, and I again removed the inside discharge rubber discharge hose, and this time it was almost totally blocked with lint, again.  The dryer inside discharge hose will be on a 2 year tear down for cleaning from now on.

Dave, on my 2100XL, which did not have a lint filter, I found there is a procedure for cleaning the lint and preventing the problem your having.  In my 03 owners manual, there was instruction on how to do this.  I also called Splendide and talked to customer service.  They explained the procedure to me as well.  My memory may be foggy on this but I shut off the cold water to the washer, removed the dryer vent hose on back of unit, put the water cold water hose into the dryer vent (easy for water to flow downward as hose has 90 deg fitting on end) and turn the water on full for about 15 seconds.  Then run through the wool cycle with washer empty.  This back flushes the trapped lint and the wool cycle fills the drum almost full of water for a good flush.  Afterwards, just ran an empty wool cycle about once a month and had no further problems.  Good Luck Dave!
Joe, sorry if I hijacked the thread.  I'm hoping for a good outcome for you as I have a Splendide 2000 that I use almost daily and will be going through the changeout sooner than I would like.  Good luck with your install!

Joe, shipping is very erratic now.  My 2 Furrion A/C's from Campingworld still haven't shipped, ordered on 5-18.  At least I'm at a good spot to sit and wait here in the Arizona heat.  They tell me shipping takes 10-14 business days to process the order then time for shipping.  Of course they didn't tell me that when I gave them my CC #.

We had the same issue. Wasn't enough room access the dryer vent from inside the coach. Rummaged thru all my "stuff" and found a propane hot water tank rinser. Luckily the tube was flexible enough that I could push it through the dryer vent and 180º it around to shoot down into the washer. Worked like a champ. Blew all the lint out. I consider it routine maintenance now. Whenever the dryer is taking longer to dry I pull out the water tank rinser and rinse out the vent. Takes longer to get the hose out and hooked up than it does to rinse it.

Finally received our second unit, undamaged this time.  Got out the tape and now we have an issue with the new unit exhaust being lower than the original hole in the coach.  Now have to figure out how to connect without cutting an additional hole in the coach side wall.  Going to try and use schedule 40 PVC, two 90's and a straight to bring it out to the original hole.  Will see how that goes, as the outside diameter of the exhaust on the new unit is 2 1/4 inches and the overall size of the actually ring is 3 1/4 inches.  May try a flexible rubber hose as well.  Will let all know how this all goes!  Closes HD or Lowe's is about 130 miles away, so will see what is available here at our maintenance shed.  Just one more issue in this saga!
