Gas regulator model number confusion - vent in wrong position

Ordered a MEGR-291 but got a MEGR-298 in a bag labeled 291.  Be careful to get the one you need so the vent points down.

The gory details:
Per another thread, I am replacing my gas regulator with an updated Marshall Excelsior.  The original is a MEGR-290 and it is replaced by a MEGR-291.  Both have the vent oriented in line with the inlet and outlet (called "end vent") as needed on my 2004.  As mentioned several times (for good reason) by Brett Wolfe, the vent must be mounted pointed down.

The company also makes the MEGR-289 with the only difference being the vent is 90 degrees to the left so that the regulator can be mounted horizontally.

I ordered a 291 from Autoplicity on Amazon but got a 298.  I immediately saw it was wrong because of the vent orientation  (thanks Brett!).  The unit has "MEGR-298" stamped by the inlet and on a QR code BUT it has "MEGR-291" as part of the casting near the outlet.  The casting seems to be a generic that can be used by a variety of models (they also have higher pressure models that are different colors – the 291 and 298 are unpainted zinc.)  The 298 was also shipped in a bag labeled "MEGR-291".  I don't know if the factory or the seller labeled the bag.

I have contacted the seller to get a replacement and sent an email to Marshall Excelsior about the problem.  It looks like a liability for one or both of them if the wrong unit is mounted and there is a failure.
