|No Power to 2nd leg of Transfer Switch

Plugged into my new 50 Amp pedestal and noticed I was not reading any power on line #2 in...

The power at the 50Amp good on both lines.

The shore power line was warm at the back of the real...  and the transfer switch engaged.

After investigating the transfer switch.. it is working fine.

Isolated the lines in.  1 line works, 2nd line no power.

What is between the shore line power wheel and the transfer switch... that causes the line to exit the wheel thick and show up to the transfer switch thin...

Any suggestions on causes of losing power to the second  line?

Thanks

There is a junction box pretty close to your power reel check inside of it.

Are you measuring it with a multi meter or going off the display in the coach?

If the latter, check the breakers at the foot of the bed.  The Powerline Monitor reads out what it detects on 2 circuits, not the actual line voltage.  As the breakers get older, they trip easily.  Flip the ones with Powerline Monitor off and back on and see if the situation corrects itself.

We had this happen many, many times until we replaced the breakers.  In fact, one that would trip had nothing but the Powerline Monitor on it.  Everything in the coach worked, just one voltage display would read "0" until we reset the breaker.

Coincidentally, they are often the lowest breakers (closest to the engine) in the breaker panel.  They are readily available at Lowes for replacement.

The display and multi-meter confirmed the same... that is how we know it is between the real connection and the transfer switch.

Red Tractor - Can you take a pic of the junction box or give me more detail... are you referring to the box on the left side of the wheel?  I'm thinking I have to drill out the rivets and see what is going on in there as my next step.

Matt,

I have no idea how or where your power cord reel is mounted.  On my coach, the reel is mounted in the driver side end of the wet bay right next to a bay divider wall.  The line out of the reel assembly goes through the adjacent wall into the next compartment, which in my case is the utility bay.  The junction box mentioned by Ron (above) is mounted on that wall.  It is normally hidden behind the "beauty panel" that holds my wet bay water faucet and the dump valve handles.  You can see the junction box in the photo below (I was installing my 3rd dump valve and had the beauty panel removed).

I have a Shoreline Reel Model #RV5036 01 and I am assuming on the left panel there is a contact point that may be faulty...  It looks like the only way to access is to drill out the rivets.

Once the cord leaves the left panel it moves into the compartment above.  To the left of this compartment is the Aqua Hot and the next compartment over to the left is the Transfer Switch.

As you can see in my photo the line coming out of the panel is quite thick...  Once it reaches the transfer switch it is about 1/2 the size...  That is why I am wondering if there is another junction box or something...

Thanks
Matt

I don't have our coach any more so can't give you a picture. I would just follow the wire to where you will find a junction box it will probably be within 6 feet of the reel.

Matt, don't know what year coach you have, but on our 2003 with the same power reel as you have, the junction box is directly above the reel on the ceiling above the fresh water tank.
