Parts for Aero 5050XL Resonator installation

I am trying to gather the necessary parts for my resonator installation. So far I have the Aero 5050XL. I wasted $75 on a turn down tip from Amazon that sat around too long for me to return it. Besides being highly magnetic (see picture below) it is meant to fit over a 5" OD pipe. The Aero 5050 has an ID of 5" (about 5 ⅛" OD). The tip I bought is about the same. I suppose I could use a butt joint clamp, but that isn't my favorite option and besides, all of the clamps I can find online are say they are for 5" OD pipes. Perhaps the ⅛' difference is not a deal killer... but I know this has been done by many on the forum with the same resonator and so I was expecting that it would be easy to find the necessary parts. I am not going to tackle this project just yet as I have bigger fish to fry, but I would like to gather all of the pieces ahead of time. Currently, my thinking is that I will need some stainless flex (18" or so), maybe a 45º elbow, clamps, hanger bits etc. I think it is 4" coming off the turbo, and if so I will need a 4" to 5" transition in there somewhere. This is for the 8.3 ISC Cummins. I would appreciate any input from someone who has done this project using the Aero unit as it appears getting the right ID and OD parts is going to be more of a challenge than I thought. :o Since I already have the Aero unit, I don't want to consider getting something different for that part of the job.
Don
The Picture below shows the tip I bought hanging by a magnet. The piece is strongly magnetic while the 304 stainless Aero is barely magnetic at all. The Amazon description said that it is chrome plated stainless steel, which puzzled me, but I just attributed it to typical translation issues (probably form Chinese). I might end up using the tip I already bought with a short 5" OD sleeve inside the end of the Aero 5050 and tip, along with a butt clamp.

Don, when I did mine I had the local muffler shop swage me out a connecting piece to join them.
I did 4" short elbow from turbo to 4" stainless flex the used a piece of original straight pipe to 4/5" adapter then resonator and finally chrome tip.

Check out a Jones turbine resonator, looks like and from my research built internally like the 5050xl, it was about half the price of the 5050xl. Here's a couple of pics of mine after I changed it out. I think I used a 5" 90,45,a short piece of flex pipe 3 or 4 band clamps and a hanger or 2. If you were closer I have a5" 45 I'd give ya.
In the pics at first I didn't have any flex pipe before the 45 and didn't like the angle of the tail pipe so I added some to get the muffler closer to being parallel to the side of the coach giving me the look I wanted on the tailpipe

on a turn down tip from Amazon

Just a comment related to the turn down tip. I liked the look of the turn down and installed one on our 270 when I ditched the muffler for a resonator (against the advice of an experienced forum member). Should have listened. I have a 1 1/2 mile ill maintained dirt road to my place. Can't go over maybe 7 or 8 mph with the rig. Drives fine but you oughta see what's going on behind me! Looks like a dust storm. i turned it to the side which is an improvement but I am going back to the straight pipe next.

Don,

I have a bunch of miscellaneous new parts from when I replaced mine recently. I ended up having to locally source some parts that I had already ordered as shipping was delaying me finishing up before we had a trip. I'd be happy to take pictures of what I did and inventory what I have in spare parts. I think I have some 5" inch fittings, some flex, and one 4" to 5" adapter. I'd make you a good deal if you can use them.

PM me if interested.

Don, you might think twice about the stainless flex--I was going to do that but the price of ss flex was about 4 times the price of galvanizes muffler flex.  I reasoned that the original had lasted 20 years so the replacement would probably last 20 years.  I did buy 10' fo 5" ss straight pipe to use to add length to the resonator but I got that for about $50.00.
Just my 2c worth
Also, as posted above you might get a muffler shop to flange the end enough to go over the resonator end.

I used galvanized flex pipe on my last coach and it only lasted a couple years so I fixed it with stainless.

Somewhere, several years back ( I think on this forum) I remember reading about exhaust flow benefits of using the angled down ( as is the factory set-up) exhaust tip. It was about exhaust flow not appearance. Seemed this exhaust exit point and direction were very important in the exit flow of the exhaust gas.

I've been looking at the parts for this as well...Stainless Flex is a premium compared to Galvanize but really only about $25 more. Amazon.com: 36" Stainless Steel Flexible Exhaust Tubing 5" Dia Flex Pipe...
Buying the Jones 5050xl vs the Aero Turbine more than covers the difference.

Len, I looked really close at the aero and jones JT5050XL and the only thing I could figure out was the Patent must have gone out on the aero and jones started making them.  To me they look Identical,  But -yes there may be different material used in the construction, time will tell!

So when you do this conversion it doesn't make the engine run leaner. I know it's apples to oranges. But when I've done this to motorcycles you had to reprogram the ecm because the engine ran to lean. I don't know diesels so maybe not a factor. I would like to do this conversion.

So airflow threw the engine is unlimited, unrestricted. Fuel is added or removed do to power demands. I think the reduced exhaust restriction would allow higher boost that is limited and controlled reducing EGT. I have really not noticed much/any performance increases or economy improvements, but the reduced temperature in the bedroom for us is well worth the effort.

Except our batteries are on the coach right side. Also and it is a big ALSO you have a BIG louvered door. My skin is fixed outside of the condenser. I really like that bigger door. I have a matching the other side narrow door. Can't get my shoulders threw. Ive got all that storage area and is unuasable. Was thinking of adding a rack to utilize the area. I really like your door!. May actually look into that.
