Float Type Fuel Sender

I had a problem with my fuel sender constantly reading full for the past year and a half. I contacted Mike in parts and he told my about the old style float type senders they have been using as of late. He said they are more reliable than the electronic Centroid type. So I ordered one and installed it today. It seems to work great and is easy to install. I had a Cenroid CGF-24 that was rated 240/33 Ohms. Mike matched it to one of the same rating. My old sender was a 3 wire and the new is 2. You have to cap off the EL4 ignition wire at the sender. Black on the new sender goes to the ground wire and the Red to the send wire. Also the sender holes are not evenly spaced. It only fits in one position. Hopefully I will have many years of trouble free service from this one.

Awesome. Price? Mine has been reading incorrectly since I bought it. At full it only reads half, and when the low fuel warning light comes on I can only get 85 gallons in. Driving 400 miles with "low fuel" illuminated is nerve wracking. This is a mod/repair I will do soon!

My centroid electronic works fairly accurately.  It calibrates itself.  Need to let the tank run down every so often to help it calibrate

Bob, what years have the self calibrating senders?
Our coach is an '02 and doesn't show much more than 3/4 when full.

Was a replacement from mr grimes.  Easy install. Got tired of micro adjusting the stock tank sensor

Dave , Thanks for the info. You must be the one Mike in parts was talking about having problems getting it to work properly. I will see if I need to put the variable resistor in mine to adjust it. Haven't had much of a chance to test the accuracy yet but it is great info.

The fuel level sender in my 96 was not accurate when I bought the coach in 2010. I cleaned the contacts at the tank, then adjusted the empty and full readings (at the tank sender). It has been accurate now for 6 years, but does turn "low fuel" light on with 30 or 40 gallons left. I use the auxiliary trip in my Silverleaf to track miles and gallons used since last fill up. I also dip the tank level with less than 40 gallons so always know how much fuel is in the tank. Some other folks here have posted that they also cleaned the contacts and tried adjusting but still saw erratic unreliable readings.

Last week, returning from a family reunion, and with no particular reason to rush home or be home if things went bad, I fueled in ABQ, putting 140.4 gallons in the 150 gallon capacity tank on my U270.  After 15 years of ownership, I wanted to check the accuracy of  the fuel gauge.  I used my normal mpg and miles since last top off to figure my range.  I am happy to know that the gauge works and will not do this trick again.  Unless I am bored again driving interstates....

My low fuel light comes on at a quarter tank so that's about right Wyatt. I suppose it's better to be cautious and conservative than stranded.

I wanted to send an update to my post from years ago. Just made a short trip to Destin and found my fuel level sender leaking. Turns out it is leaking where the sender passes through the top plate. In hindsight I would not recommend this type of sender. I believe the float causes the shaft to move with the fuel putting pressure on the seal. It lasted five years but I am going back to the centroid type. Just ordered one from FOT.
