Coach, toad loaded for fulltime travel weight results
I finally got around to weighing my coach on a CAT Scale using the phone app. After 10 months we have pretty much settled on our fulltime load in coach and pickup. I weighed the coach with full fuel, full water, full propane, empty holding tanks and the pickup attached with full fuel and all our gear. I carry lots of tools and have five solar panels on the roof of the coach. The pickup has two kayaks on the roof, a three wheeled recumbent in the bed and an e-bike on a swing-away KUAT hitch.
I had previously weighed the coach by itself, it was a little harder to position on the scale with our pickup attached, but after explaining the scales to my wife she guided me into position. We got a three axle weight, the third "axle" being the pickup. She also climbed aboard for the reading.
FOT rates our 1998 U270, 36' no slide as follows:
12000 front axle
19000 rear axle
31,000 GVW and 36,000 CGVW giving us a tow rating of 5,000 pounds.
We ended up at 34,300 GCVW with front and rear axles loaded under their rated capacity. One of these days we will do the every wheel weight at an Escapees Rally. These non slide coaches have an amazing carrying capacity. I have more "left over" carrying capacity than many RVs. I read Motorhome Life and Trailer Life for about ten years. I've been especially concerned about reviews showing front or rear axles overloaded with only fuel, water and passengers, no gear. I recently watched a YouTube video outlining a couple's battle with an RV manufacturer that failed to come close to their specified carrying capacity for a smaller Super C. Their goal was 1500 pounds of carrying capacity for their brand new dream RV, a target missed by a wide margin.
It really does take a little planning to weigh the combined rig with tanks filled at max travel capacity, but the CAT Scales App makes it a breeze. You have to download the app, set up your form of payment with a user name and password. A couple of videos walk you through it, but like most things the first time seems a little confusing. You get your results immediately in the app and then also emailed to you.
