Vent under shower

It seems that the vent in the shower pan, below the door, gets air from the basement.  When I turn on the bathroom fan(s), I can feel outside air coming through that vent.  Is this the main purpose of this vent?

Overnight, we keep the bathroom front and rear pocket doors closed, and when we open it in the morning, we can smell diesel fumes usually.  Is there any issue with blocking off that vent at night or permanently?

Kieth on mine there is also a vent that is under shower pan and into bedroom wall. I have looked into the area being curious as to there  purpose also. I would speculate that the plumbing access thru the floor could and should be sealed better but also you shouldn't be smelling diesel either. Is it raw diesel or aqua hot exhaust that you refer to as diesel. Diesel would mean a leak somewhere downstairs and exhaust would mean a failing air seal on one of your compartment doors. Neither would be acceptable to me.

No vent into the basement under the shower pan in my 2003. Front vent is in bathroom, two back vents for aquahot  in bedroom.  I have had the vent cover off to vacum under, and shined a light around underneath.

Maybe it needs sealed around the plumbing under the pan?

I don't think you want to seal up either of the vents in the shower base. They provide needed ventilation into the space where condensation or moisture might collect.  If you are smelling diesel exhaust of fuel smell it may need some sealing around the drain pipe.  I would be more concerned about where the fumes are coming from.

Check the area above the back passenger side  Tyre and see if that wheel well covering is not damaged.  The shower drain trap is just above the Tyre and if a crack or worn thru due to rubbing of tyre may be the issue.
