Basement thermostat sensor location

Last year, in researching upgrading my water pump I took a look at the basement thermostat all coiled up and the sensor located about half way to the basement ceiling. My question is, when I upgrade my water pump this spring where should I locate the thermostat sensor to be in the proper location. Too high and it will read hot all the time ( hot air rises) and to low a it will have the basement heat on all the time. Suggestion and or pics of where this coil and sensor should be??

I hung mine near the bottom and that seems to be working fine. I would rather have
top too warm than the bottom to be freezing.

Mine is mounted on the wall above the water pump about 3/4 the way up.

Peter, mine is about 1/2 way between the heat exchanger and ceiling.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I will move it down a bit as it is about 3/4 the way up from the floor.  I agree, I would rather have the ceiling a little bit warmer than have the floor freezing
