Filling HWH slide Reservoir?

Notice on HWH tank says: "all cylinders must be retracted when filling reservoir."  For Foretravels, is this the same as saying all slides must be retracted?  The difference was probably negligible, but my last DP had a bi-direction scissor slide where the cylinder was actually retracted when the slide was extended....

Extended cylinder volume is more than retracted volume. If you filled the tank with the cylinders extended then retracted them the tank would overflow.

OldS,

No.  There have been some FT coaches that one slide had to be extended and one retracted to get the cylinders in the retracted position. I'm not sure about the IH system if they are all set up the same.

I believe HWHs web site has a chart for what position the slides must be in for the type of system, and year your Foretravel is. Not sure if that includes the IH coaches.

Had a 50/50 chance of being right--I wasnt.  Topped off the reservoir with slides in [rams retracted, right?] and now, with three slides extended tonight, I have a small, red puddle under the coach.  Seems on the IH anyway, some/all slides in means rams are extended?????  I am going to need some grease rags in the morning!

I know bed ram retracted when in  will have to check others

How much fluid did you put in when you topped off?  It leaked out the resovar?

Yup--what I should have done--I checked the main slides [eg chain drives] this morning and with the slide retracted the rams are EXTENDED.  So, all three main slides need to be extended to get an accurate reading of the HWH fluid reservoir.  The single ram under the bed-slide probably doesnt make that much difference but am guessing the slide retracted would also mean the ram is retracted too.  Not sure how much fluid spilled--perhaps a pint--but the tray under the pump caught it and drained it thru the floor, on to the ground--nice feature!
