Keyless entry question. Trimark e-pad outside door

I am the 3rd owner of a 2009 Nimbus CE. I've tried following the directions in the manual to reset the door keyless entry pad, but have had no luck. I wasn't given the code the previous owner's used so need to reset it. I have a 4 digit keypad (plus a doorbell). On page 6 of my manual it gives directions on how to assign new access codes. I'm not getting a confirmation beep from the keypad when I try to assign a new code. It does beep after I input the default authority code, but I cannot get it to let me finish the steps after that. Anyone have any suggestions for what to try?
