Hard water Treatment

The Fredericksburg Tx city/park water supplied to our RV has a hardness of 250 ppm.  Quite undesirable.

We got an RV water softener from Amazon upon recommendation of Roger Engdahl.  It has lowered the hardness to zero.  Great performance

This will avoid forming scale mineral deposits of calcium and such in pipes and valves.

The Standard size unit, easily hooked up and portable.  On The GO Water Softener.  About $45 as I recall.

$275 never found one or $45. You must have a better discount program than I do.

You are right, I miss remembered. It was $208.  Guess that is why it took me so long to get one.

I had no idea a softener like this could be had for $250, plus looks very straightforward.  In San Antonio you have to chew the water first...

When using this item, is there a pressure drop or flow restriction  from shore hookups.. I always use a regulator anyway, just curious. Would be nice to have to fill water tank prior to boondocking as you never know what water you will get along the way...

We have that same type of portable water softener and experience no flow restriction or pressure drop. The soft water is a real blessing. Previously we had experienced problems with the tempering valve in our Aqua Hot while using Florida's hard water but the use of the water softener eliminates those issues.

As we have soft water here I have never thought of the hard water problem. When I
got the coach a filter system came with the coach for filling up so when I going to leave
the Province I will take it with me.

As usual this forum will cost me more money.  LOL.  We have a spigot off the soft water from our house that I fill the coach with and so far have not needed to get water while on a trip, but that will change with a trip we have planned next month.  Looks like I'll be picking one of these up.  Looks like a nice piece.

There is a smaller water softener (10,000 size) that works well.  It needs to be recharged (easy) every 700 gallons or so. The bigger size should last for 1000 gallons or more.  Each comes with water hardness testing strips.  The beads inside the softener should be changed every 5-6 years.

You should add a particulate filter, 2nd in line after the pressure regulator.  This keeps sand and rust and other bits out of your water system.  And the soft water limits mineral deposits especially in the hot water side of things.
