Windshield problems/1995 u280 GV

We've had a major issue with the windshield shifting. We have checked for delamination, there is none. However, the gasket was in really bad shape and you could see where it had been cut and caulked. We ordered a new one from FT—-finally found a glass company to come pull the old glass to replace the gasket and put everything back together...they came today, cleaned everything up, everything was going great until it was determined the driver side window frame had been significantly cut/trimmed , which is likely the cause....anyway, we have determined instead of  putting it back together and adding caulking to make up for where the metal was cut, we'd like to just get a new drivers side window...called FT they have a bunch of passengers side but no drivers side.  Called MoT they have none....

So anyone have a lead on a GV that has been junked where I might be able to get a drivers side window?

I got a list of salvage yards from MOT and will start calling tomorrow, but  was hoping maybe someone here might be able to help.

Hi, Heather.  So we don't have a Grandvilla, but a Unicoach style body.  Our windshields do not have a metal frame, so I am not sure if what I am about to tell you is applicable to a GV or not.

We had windshield shifting/popped out woes, too, and at the end of the day, also determined that the hole where the driver's side windshield goes was altered/trimmed.  We received confirmation that it was/is common practice to shave a little bit of fiberglass off here or there if the window installation guys don't feel like they can install it without breaking the glass.  :o  We ultimately had Xtreme re-fiberglass the radius in the top left corner and we have had zero issues since.  ***knock on wood***  This was back in January 2015.

Heather,
Our 94 side window frames are manufactured from aluminum. If you find a welding shop that does aluminum work, they may be able to help. The glass and seals would have to be removed from the frame before welding. The seals may have to be replaced.

The other thing to look at is the 3/4' plywood bulkhead that locates the dash and the base of the windshield. Our windshields kept popping out of the gaskets in the top right corner, and when I checked around, I was able to poke my finger right through that plywood. I made a new one out of treated 3/4, Installed it with liberal amounts of 3M, and that solved our problem..
