Winegard Traveler Dish stuck. “AZ motor stalled” Resolved -details in post

I decided to stow the dish due to an incoming thunder storm. It's stuck facing up. The screen shows the error code and the dish stops moving. When I press the power button it revolves about a 1/4 turn, then back to a stop...dish still facing up.

I pulled the power from the receiver for 5 minutes and tried again with the same results.

Any suggestions? I hate getting on the roof....will check for obstructions after the storm.

Thank,
Jeff

Try this:
1. Press [POWER] and hold for 2 seconds to turn "ON" the TRAV'LER Interface Box. Wait until the Interface Box finishes "connecting to antenna". The TRAV'LER may enter the "Search Routine" after 10 seconds this is normal (See NOTE Below).

2. Press [ENTER] and hold for 2 seconds or until the unit displays "Enter User Menu". Press [SELECT] to move the asterisk to "Yes". Press [ENTER].

3. Press [SELECT] to move the asterisk to INSTALLATION.

4. Press [ENTER]. You will be asked to provide a code to enter the Installation Menu.

5. Press [ENTER] 4 times to enter code 0000.

6. Press [SELECT] to move " * " to "Calibrate EL".

7. Press [ENTER].

8. Press [SELECT] to move " * " to YES.

9. Press [ENTER] to start the elevation calibration procedure. The LCD should now display "Calibrate EL In Progress ...".

10. After a few moments the IDU LCD will display "On EL Hard Stop?-Yes*No". Visually examine the antenna to verify that the antenna is against the Hard Stop. The antenna will be pointing as far up as it can go, this is the Hard Stop.

11. Press [SELECT] once to move asterisk to "Yes" if antenna is on the Hard Stop.

12. Press [ENTER] and the LCD will display "Calibrate EL Success".

13. You may now stow the antenna.

There are other solutions on the internet found by Google search.

Good luck

And after all that. One could do Starlink and unlimited high speed streaming and big time internet for the cost of dish/DTV signal.
We are strongly considering going that route. But the one time equipment cost puts off the DW.

We already have Starlink but that doesn't  solve the issue of my dish being stuck in the deployed position..

Dish is stowed. For future reference this is what I did to stow the dish:

Thanks all.

Press and hold "enter" on interface box until "enter user menu" appears.

> Press "select" to move the * next to yes, and then press "enter".

> Press "select" until the * is next to "installation", and then press

> "enter".

> When asked for password, press "enter" 4 times.

> Press "select" until the * is next to "calibrate el", and then press > "enter".

> It will then say "on EL hard stop". If the satellite is still pointing > straight up press "select" to move the * next to yes, and then press > "enter".

> It should say calibrate EL success. Once it does, press "enter". > Press "select" until the * is next to "exit".

> It should then say "power off:yes/no". Press "select" to move the * > next to yes, and then press "enter".

My dish would be erratic. I was going the dumpster route but when I was by the dish, I noted a cover. Took the cover off and the wires had been chafed on the gear. I covered the wires and isolated them from any moving parts. It works

My Winegard Traveler dish finally gave up the ghost and had to purchase the newest greatest out there, the new Traveler that works off bluetooth.  $2400 for dish and within a month, the bluetooth quit working!  They claim now, with the new dish, it can be serviced in the field.  For $2400 it should come with an umbrella and a butler!

Kidding aside this happens to me once or twice every couple of years.  Got through to the factory years ago, and they were ho-hum about it, and they provided the menu sequence that you used successfully.  Just keep the menu handy and go ahead and use your dish.  That's what I've been doing without any "problems".  If it gets stuck again you'll just correct it again.  One issue that I did have to correct was a chaffed or broken wire that commonly fails.  It's the skinny cable that goes from the receiver on the antenna boom back to the base of the antenna before going into the coach.  I simply replaced it with a short length of RG6 coax, and it's lasted for 4 years now.  That thin OEM link is what bends and twists every time the antenna is deployed.  Under engineered at the start IMO.

That gives me enough courage to give it a try.
