Jack Knife Bed

Anyone have a suggestion on the jack bed to fill in the hinge area to make the bed level to sleep on? I was thinking maybe pool noodles with a mattress pad over top of it.

Perhaps a thin "self inflating" air mattress like those used under sleeping bags?  Might be hard to find the correct size...

How Do Self-Inflating Sleeping Mats Work?

This one, for instance, is 77" long and 50" wide:

When traveling with friends or older grandkids, I used a 3in thick foam mattress, cut to fit the sofa, and after filling  the hinge area with folded towels, lay mattress on top and made up the bed.  Used a full size bottom sheet to hold it on the sofa and made it up as usual.  No complaints about comfort.  In the morning after making my bed, would simply pickup the made up foam mattress (with help of guest) and move to bedroom and lay on bed.  Kept it out of the way for travel and ready for the next night.  After trip roll up mattress, stow away wherever you can (I have storage building).

We use pool noodles and a foam mattress topper.
No complaints yet.
However,  granddaughters' back is younger than most of ours.
In restless dreams I walked alone.
Narrow streets of cobblestone.

We use a rolled up thin blanket to fill the gap. Easier to store than pool noodles.
