Power Tech PTS MH 10 Gen Set

Minor problem, after running my Gen Set while traveling I went to shut it Down from the remote panel, The Generator stopped running, however the green indicator light on the remote panel stayed lit up. No problem I thought, the generator stopped running so I walked away without giving it a second thought. Well, a few days later I did a walk around the motorhome, when I checked the generator compartment I heard the Fuel pump running and when I checked the hour meter it had been running for several days even though the generator had been off. So, I started checking relays (4) that are located in the control box on the Gen-Set. I removed them one at a time and the fuel pump continued to run. The Green indicator light did go out when I removed the"oil pressure" relay. I have the wiring diagram for the system and even with all relays removed the fuel pump continues to run.  Any ideas ??????    ???

Mine did that when we were at a Grandvention in 2006. I found that "bumping" the inside start switch solved the problem. I'd only put about 100 phantom hours on the meter so I'm not too worried about it.

If Larry's suggestion ("Percussive Persuasion") fixes your problem, then perhaps something is "sticking" in the wrong position.

You could remove the switch in question, take it apart and see what's sticking.  If you can't take it apart, then spray some contact cleaner into any openings in the switch, hope for the best.

Sorry More information;  I also disconnected the remote control plug from the rear of the gen-set to make sure that the problem was not at any of the remote switches. even after doing this the fuel pump and hour meter continued to run even with all 4 of the relays removed. I was wondering if there was a fuel pressure switch that could have failed. also, would there be any 12 volt supply that is not shown on the wiring diagram? It seems to me that something is back feeding the fuel pump and hour meter, and also the green indicator light when the remotes are hooked to the gen-set.  ::)  ::)

Very puzzling.  Any circuit breakers you could try turning off - either on the generator panel or at the AC panel in the coach?  If you can just identify the circuit providing the power to fuel pump and Hobbs meter, that would be a start in tracking down the culprit.

If you have the ES52 controller, remove the fuel relay from the controller, the fuel pump should stop,it could be that the contacts in the relay are burnt together.

Check the pre-heat switches if you have not already. They also run the fuel pump when depressed.

Where would it be located, what would it look like?  This sounds like the problem.

Pre-heat switch  in control box check and working properly.

The ES-52 autostart controller has all the vertical lights on it. On mine they protrude through the front panel. It is attached behind the panel.

Do you have a wiring diagram for the generator? I have one in my big white book. It shows all the sensors, even some the PowerTech techs don't know about. I used that to help solve a problem that had them stumped.

Bringing this back up to the top. I realized that I had solved my problem and failed to post the solution.

I was recently contacted by one of our members who was experiencing the same issue I had; Green light on, Fuel pump running, and the Hour meter running. I have copied Our emails and posted them here for all to see;

I have a '94 U280 with the PowerTech 10 run by a Kubota. Same as yours. The
hour meter and the fuel pump run after I've shut it down. What was your solution?

There is an oil pressure loss shut down switch on the backside of the unit. Very hard to get to. If I remember correctly, I had to slide the gen set out on the slides, then I removed the air intake cover from the compartment to the rear of the gen set to gain access. The radiator side. When this switch fails it signals that the engine still has oil pressure, so the green light on the dash, the Hour meter and the fuel pump keep running. My Hour Meter ran for about 3,000 hours before I realized that the fuel pump was also running, not just the green light on the dash being on.

My first attempt to correct the problem was to cut/disconnect the power supply to the fuel pump. After I replaced the pressure switch I put a power supply switch where I had cut the wire.


I got the sensor mid-week and put it in this morning. It was a pretty simple job, but I never would have guessed that was the problem. I really appreciate the help.
I had pulled all of the relays and cut the lead to the fuel pump to stop the clock and the pump. Once I got it all back together, the generator ran great.
