Remy Delco Starter Install Wiring question

I am in the middle of replacing my 41MT to a 39MT gear reduction starter. I have a couple of questions about the wiring instructions.

Using the link/PDF/photo, the bottom photo shows the wiring. It mentions this in bold "REMOVE THIS GROUND LEAD WHEN CONNECTING ECM TO IMS GROUND".  Searching on here, all of the photos I have seen show this wiring intact. Do I need to remove this at all? If so, is it just while I attach the switch terminal wire at the top and the positive and negative? Or does it get removed permanently? If it is temporarily, why does this need to be done?

IMS = Integrated Magnetic Switch

ECM =  Electronic Control Module

Is your starter energized by the key switch in the dash?  Or by the engine management computer?

"Verify the replacement starter has the same number of leads on the IMS (small solenoid). There are two types.
3 wire IMS (connected to start switch) and 2 wire IMS (connected to ECM). The new starter must have the same number of
leads as the old starter. The 2 wire and 3 wire units are not interchangeable."

So the Integrated Magnetic Switch is the solenoid (relay) mounted on the starter.  Does the new starter have the same number of wires as the old?  If they both are only 2-wire units, remove the wire and leave it off.

Thanks for the reply. I'm coming from a 41MT to a 39MTand the 41MT doesn't have an IMS.

I'm not sure how the starter is energized, good question. I'd lean towards the ECM given how much is controlled by it but I don't know.  I did try to call tech support but they are closed on weekends it seems.

The hard work is done, I swapped out the old with the new, it's just not wired yet. Mine did have a spacer that I reused, this way the bolts would work, it only goes one way. I did not need to clock it, it was correct from the factory.

For those who do this in the future, you need a 12mm , 12 point socket and extensions. I did use Kroil on them a couple hours before. A breaker bar was not needed. I read the trick about having someone above with a strap around it to lower and support it, that was helpful. The DW and kid supported it with a ratchet strap while I undid the bolts and then lowered it. The same method was used to raise it. 41MT weighs 51.2lbs, the new one is just over 35lbs according to the specs, so a slight shaving.

So just to be absolutely clear here, the 41MT is energized by a remote mounted starter solenoid?  So if I understand your situation correctly all you need to do is hook up the big cable. and run a jumper wire from the big cable to the coil terminal on the 39MT starter solenoid.  Or am I missing something here?  Your 41MT looks like good old fashioned brute force.

The original starter solenoid is mounted to the starter.
