Propane regulator on 94 gv with Emerald genset

Asking for friend with this model. Gen set would not run and I figured it was a propane fuel issue. I took apart the regulator that is fed from tank and is mounted close to tank, so maybe a first stage one, and after checking diaphragm and checking behind this decided all was OK with it. Put it back together and now it runs!!!!!
So, as this is original it needs to be replaced and I cannot find a comparable  one at all. Has anyone changed this one out and if so what did you use. Thanks in advance.

We had a GV of similar vintage.  It need a regulator, looked different but probably did the same thing.

The Onan part was discontinued and around $200 if one could find it.  The shop gave it back to us unrepaired and said "sorry, can't fix it."

I am too stubborn for that.  I researched for a replacement based on the specifications.  A fork lift regulator, same in function and specs, was $10 on Ebay.  Happy ending.

I hope this helps!

John,

Any idea of the specs/what PSI it outputs?  With that information replacement should be reasonably easy to find.

Does the generator (from model and serial number confirmation with Onan) use the same in-generator regulator as earlier models like was on our 1993 model?

Insure that the line from the propane tank has been switched from liquid to vapor unless that is already its source.  This will prevent the longer hydrocarbon chains from clogging the on-generator regulator that is "laying on its side" so that the contaminants collect rather than vertically so that they pass on through and are burned.

Sherwood is apparently still in business.  Surely some purveyor of LP pressure regulating equipment could suggest a suitable substitute for the old unit.  It's not rocket science, after all...

See pages 13 and 14 in the catalog linked below for an example of current Sherwood regulators.

Thanks guys for info. I will get the manual for gen set to see requirement and the regulator is in correct position re drain. Mel is going down to Q this January and also going to P  P so as Mexico has billions of Propane needs he will see if a cross over can be found there. I will check with Sqibb and see if they can find this model # before he leaves.
Thx again

... and the regulator is in correct position re drain.

So, that is the only regulator VS a second one inside the generator?

Unusual for a single stage regulator to be the only one.

Brett, there is  second one (stage I guess) next to the genset, and tough to get too  for taking apart.
He is away in it this weekend  and when back I am sure we will try to remove it or at least take apart for inspection.
