water heater

I recently replaced my thermostats and igniter plug on my water heater, it will fire up and heat to temperature when I turn it on, but won't fire back up after  cooling, I manually have to switch it on again. any thoughts on this? I haven't replaced the board yet, was hoping there would be a solution before I threw more parts at it. Original water heater on a '93 GV. Been working great for 3 years we've had it.

"Won't fire back up after cooling" sounds like a thermostat problem.  Also, one of the last things you worked on was the thermostats.  SO, I would recheck your recent work, carefully check any wiring connections you disturbed, wiggle all the wires to check for internal intermittent breaks in the conductors.  Of course, it could be something else that just decided to go bad and has nothing to do with the thermostats.  Which is why a logical trouble shooting approach is handy.

If you do decide to replace the board, get the one from Dinosaur.  You won't regret the money spent.

I added a few additional thoughts to my terse reply above.  Feeling a bit crotchety this morning...sorry.

You can do a search on Youtube for Atwood water heater trouble shooting videos.  That's where I go (after the Forum) when I need help (on almost anything)!  8)

If needed I think I can find the original board from ours. We installed a tankless. Just let me know and it's yours.
