Propane shutoff solenoid?

Is that what this is? Someone snipped the wires on it at some point. assuming that's what this is, what typically triggers that to engage? I assume it's normally open?

Yes a shut off. It is trigged by propane detector that should be by kitchen cabinet.

That detector was also disconnected at some point, I assume because it went bad. I had just ordered a new detector last week but I do not believe it has an output signal. Do they make aftermarket units like that anymore?

Newer units do not have that propane shutoff solenoid.

If it is disconnected and permanently open, I would just leave it. Another option would be to replace it with a section of pipe.
