Slack adjuster frozen [Split from Attempting to remove the wheel lugs]

[Discussion of slack adjusters/brakes moved to this new topic - moderator Michelle]

I managed to get my lugs off with the torque multiplier.

Now my issue is that I can't get the slack adjuster to budge. The pawl is pulled out and the small 5/16" adjuster will not turn either way. I will say that the inner brake pad looks new. The outer may need to be replaced. But, I can't do anything until the adjuster get freed.

Does the e brake need to be disengaged in order to do this? I can't find anything on the forums.

You have to block the wheels and release the brake.

After posting, I figured I'd try starting the coach, airing up and disengaging the e brake. That ended up separating the discs and allowed me to turn the adjustment screw.

For those wondering: I've noticed that my right rear inner tire was heating up following using the brake pedal. Up to about 160F. This seemed like a brake issue to me so I wanted to check everything out.

I put in helper springs top and bottom, cleaned the slide pins, and regreased everything. I will likely change out the pads within the year as the outers are more worn than the inners.

The pads are not the same thickness for inner and outer. Thought mine were wore like yours and when the new pads came in then realized they weren't.

When I bought my coach on the rear right the brake pads where different thicknesses so I
was expecting to have to replace the pads but they have stayed the same for the last 4 years.
As I changed the rear tires twice a year so I do a brake inspection at the same time.

A fire department mechanic helped my change out my rear brake pads and he was surprised that my HF Earthquake XT 20v impact wrench was able to remove the lugs his Snap-On could not.  He decided to buy one.  They are advertised at 1450 Ft-lbs.  I've been very satisfied and never have to air up the compressor to rotate my tire (not RV - they don't rotate).

Same here.  HF BA earthquake .  I loosen the nuts with the 6 ft bar if my Son is around . If not, I just hit them off with the electric.  I always finish torqing on by hand tho.
