New shower / remove tub..

I have the tub/shower combination in my coach.  It is the only thing about my coach that I do not like.  The step up into it is significant and is sure to be an issue for me down the road.  I am going to speak with MOT about the feasibility of replacing it with a tradition RV shower. 

Has anyone on here done this? I'm sure it can be done - just trying to visualize what "design options" might be out there...

Well.. if it had been a snake... LOL!  It was right there under my nose! 

Thanks everyone - I have attached the one photo I currently have of the tub/shower.  Will get a couple more soon - seems like a rather rare option on a U320...

Our 2003 U320. Still a pretty good step up, which was difficult when I had a broken foot.

It is for sure..  The worst for me is stepping out - you have step up, over and down..  Even at 61 I have to be very careful....LOL

You would have to ask Michelle. The coach was already changed when we boought it from them.

I believe brushed nickel was a factory option in the early 2000's.

The previous owner of our coach took all the brass metal out and had it powder coated to dark bronze. We are very glad that he did.

The coach was originally built with silver-toned metal hardware throughout (mostly brushed nickel), not brass.  We did have the shower panels/door replaced with newer ones at FOT to get rid of the obscure stripes/let in more light and the original was a bit more polished aluminum/chrome than what's in there now.  The original definitely looked a little dated (especially with the stripes in the glass panels - "the 80's are calling and they want their shower surround back")

In Dan's coach, you can see there's an AquaHot register under the shower pan.  That precludes lowering the pan.

For what its worth, my shower looks exactly like Dan's and has the vent, but there is not an aquahot fan/coil there.  Not sure the purpose, maybe to allow warm air to get to the trap?  Maybe other floor plans do have a fan coil there and that's just the way they do it?

On the  shower side (bathroom)  no aquahot coil - just a vent. But on the backside under bedroom dresser drawers a AH coil and a AH air intake. All one large opening, so AH heat is under there - but on the bedroom zone 2 call for heat.

And shower is also raised up for the correct angle for the shower drain (sideways before going down in our coach). Plus airflow to drain piping.

If shower is up against bedroom wall, the vent can allow access to run wires, etc through the bathroom. And access to the drain trap.

Scott I agree with the step issue. Sparking my curiosity how high is your  tub floor is above the coach floor. It looks lower than the shower that i really dislike. I'll measure mine tomorrow. If yours is lower as I think it is then mine could be lower. Also the shape of you tub once converted to a shower would be very desirable too me. Please post if do convert. Im very interested

I have removed my factory raised shower from over the wheel well and will be reinstalling a standard household shower pan in a location that allows the P-trap to be installed under the coach floor in the wet bay.  This requires significant work in the bathroom, but I believe it will be worth it.  I am 6'3 and was tired of my head sticking up into the skylight during showers.

If you are interested, check out the Slimline neo-angle pan offerings.  It is a balance act of figuring out drain location and pan size to work with structure below.  I have yet to finalize my decision and move forward with the install, but this is the "cheapest" way to go.  If you did a custom corian enclosure & base, you could put the drain anywhere you please and your shower pan height could be as low as 1/2" to 1" or so higher than the floor elevation.  Obviously you would want a threshold higher than that to contain the water and keep it within the enclosure, but the actual shower floor height could be very low with a custom built enclosure.  The slimline pan has 2.5" or 2.75" of structure, but it is the shortest pan I could find without going full custom which I do not have the budget for.....
