U320 Windshield Replacement Cost - non-insured

On my way to work this AM, a U295 is at a glass shop 2 blocks down from the office getting a new drivers side windshield.  I pulled in and asked him about cost to do both sides.  He verbally quoted $600 in labor, and he "thought" that the glass was about $300-$400 per side, seems cheap to me.  This job was an insurance deal, so he didn't buy the glass.  He was busy, so I didn't want to bother him more, but I will go back this afternoon to get a firm quote from him including glass.  I do not have glass insurance.  My coach came with cracked glass, now each side has multiple cracks.  Just curious if anyone has recent replacement costs to compare against what this guy quotes me.  I have a 2000 U320 and am in California, so I'm sure I'll pay more than someone in the midwest.

Thanks,
Evan

We think of insurance is something for catastrophic losses, not for maintenance issues.

Insurance companies log every pay out and often just an inquiry on the Clue database.

CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) | Washington state Office of...

Database may influence premium renewals on vehicles and other insurable things, like homeowner, etc.

Always consider self-insuring loses by having high deductibles, etc to stay out of Clue. Do not inquiry about loses to insurance agent or company if not necessary.

@AC7880  Thank you.  I suspected my guy this morning was far off on the cost of the glass.  Thanks for the real world input.

Had it done at Foretravel and it was about $1200 per side all inclusive. They also found a problem with adhesive at top of front cap, fixed that as part of replacement.

If you can, have the work done at home, the last thing you need is to move the coach before the glue sets.
FYI I had both sides done in my driveway.

Same as MCCOY but two I years ago at MOT $1200, however glass prices from guardian who make a lot of the glass increased in early 2022 by 40% so the price may be substantially higher now
