Code Reader

Does anyone have a recommendation for a code reader / scanner that will work on my 2001 U270?  I have had a few strange issues going on lately and I am trying to get some clarity on things.  I did purchase an adapter for a reader I already have, but naturally it doesn't recognize the coach when scanning.

VMSpc if you can find one (it's been discontinued since Winegard bought Silverleaf and I believe it won't run on anything newer than Windows 10).  ScanGauge-D or BlueFire are a couple of alternatives.

Of course you can get active fault codes using the switches in the dash Engine Fault Codes

I have the bluefire  It's on my to do list to send out to pay to get it updated. I'm less than happy not being able to depend on it when you need it. May have an update and get locked out.

Scott if you get your Bluefire sorted out please share your experience.  I have one that when it worked I really liked it but ever since the update it's useless.  I bought the Scangauge D and can't say enough good things about that.

Ive been running a Bluefire on an android tablet since right after getting the coach. Although YOU the owner have to learn the software and build your own dash, Mine for the most part has worked great since I installed it. It does give actual cummins fault codes if one comes up. I have seen it do it at least once when I got an air bubble in my fuel path after a filter change.

As for it locking up, the only issue I ever had with mine was when I had that tablet Connected to the internet and I got a message in the BF app that there was an update out there. I screwed up and did that update, and it wiped my Dash design out. Luckily I had backed up and earlier version of the dash so just had to reload it and tweak it a bit. My advise, if you go that route. Once you get your dash designed the way you want it, dont ever do an upgrade.

here is a pic of what mine looks like, but you can custom make it look like whatever you want. But be prepared to spend many hours learning and designing that dash.

I will say, the two times I contacted the developer of BF he did get back with me quickly and aid in resolving the few issues I had....I do know alot of folks had issues with it not working due to the buffer being set improperly.

I do appreciate the feedback from everyone.  I was looking at ScanGuage-D as noted in Michelle's response.  I then switched over to check out Bluefire, as I have an iPad I don't really use a whole lot and thought it would be a much better visual experience.  I did read Bluefire's "Getting Started".  There were questions I had right out of the gate and I was not thrilled that you cannot contact them via phone.  I don't like waiting for pre-sales answers by email, especially when I was considering buying the adapter.

I am now concerned with the feedback in this thread about Bluefire.  Sounds like there may be some "gotchas".  Of note,  I installed the app today on my iPhone, and while running in demo mode I was surprised to find that it continually locks up.  So I'm not sure what's up with that!  It looks like I may take a pause on Bluefire for now.

I am going to take a closer look at ScanGuage-D.

The ProLink 9000 that I have for our Detroit also works for Cummins, ABS brakes, Allison, etc if you have the correct cartridge. While it's not meant to be a "glass dash", it will show four different measurements while driving. But the important feature is it's ability to read all the codes, test the injectors, etc. Here is one with the Cummins ISC cartridge as well as quite a few others: PRO LINK 9000 J38500-1 NAVISTAR/NEXIQ/IH CUMMINS MICRO PROCESSOR DIAGNOSTIC.... Ours also tests the injectors at idle and 1000 rpm and gives us a 1000 rpm fast idle. It also gives real time MPG as well as MPG over miles that you choose. As I recall, there are over 40 features available. Just as important are the manuals that are included. Our Detroit info is available online but it took me a while to find it.
