replacement for older style propane tank fill valve

When the propane truck came by to fill the tank in my 97 U295 the tank fill valve wouldn't open to accept the LPG.  According to my propane supplier  this valve was discontinued due to failure to stop flow at the prescribed 80% level and he never found a substitute.
Would like to hear from anyone that has had a similar issue and found a legitimate replacement valve.

The valve in question is mounted on a boss with 4 threaded screws into the face of the boss, as:

TIA for any info.

I appreciate the responses even though they didn't turn up much other than a confirmation of my propane supplier's reaction.  He basically said that this type of 4-bolt valve had been made obsolete after a defect allowed a major overfill and fire.  The only legal solution is to replace the tank with one that has a receptacle for a new-style threaded valve -- too much expense for me!

Thanks again.

Have you check with the tank manufacturer (stamped on the tank)?

What do they say???

Hi Brett,

Sorry for the late reply.

The tank is a Manchester and they were the first call I made.  A very short answer -- "obsolete, no stock".  My propane supplier suggested that they may be too embarrassed by the problem they had with that valve to even want to talk about it.  According to him the valve failed to shut off the fill thus loading up the whole RV gas piping with liquid and kaboom.  Lawsuit followed.

Pay attention to the upper level vent.  Fill until it pisses gas.  Shut off.
Pretty standard op.
I fail to see the problem if filled by any one that has read the protocol.

I can't tell from the pic but it looks like the fill  valve is threaded into the flange. if so, I had one like that. It's a pain to do but I was able to removed it from the tank and then unscrew the old valve from the flange. Replace with a new valve and reinstall on tank.
