Odometer fading out

I am losing the the digital read out of my odometer. Plane as day on start up, then in just a few min. it fades out. On my '02 320 it is a VDO brand. Have any of you change out the speed o/ odometer? stayed with the same make?

Wonder if ground connection could be wonky, or 12+ positive feed. Recommend same VDO matching spedo, and know the pulse count from the original spedo.

In the 1997 U295 I had the speedo died. I was able to get one from FOT. As far as the pulse count, do a search here and you will find a number of posts on pulse count. After I put in the new speedo it was more accurate then the old one was before it died.

You might give a call to Jay at Lauderdale Speedometer (FL) 954-520-8640 and tell him your problem.  He's sharp.  Lauderdale Speedometer & Compass  They work on most VDO products.

My new to me 99 U295 is on its third speedometer. According to stickers inside dash replacements were installed at FT...I guess failures are a thing with these?

I fitted a new GPS Mike that you recommended to me ages ago, absolutely fine and certainly alot easier than replacing the old sender unit,
