Hydraulic park brake switch on my 1990 foretravel grand villa

Hya all, has anyone ever had a problem with the hydraulic park brake switch, I've just sprung a fluid leak and its not coming out of the any of the 3 main pipes, it appears to be coming from the bottom, of the switch where the wires go for the dash warning light, do I need a new switch or can I get a repair seal kit, or it might be easier to just buy a new switch regardless and be done with it, looks light very awkward to actually get at the switch, has anyone ever had this problem or know where I can aquire one, I was nearly ready to take for the test soon, luckily it decided to leak before I took on the road, any help mutch appreciated thanks kev

Hya I've just removed the control valve from the dash board , it's not the control valve that's leaking, the switch itself is leaking, so would anyone know where I could get hold of just the switch, thanks

Remove it a check for psi numbers on it.
Check the contact wires for normally closed or open configuration.
Take it to a parts store or look up the switch online.
Seems like that system is gm P30 style and many parts will be GM. OE parts.
I did some work on one and it seems like the system operated at a fairly high pressure. It's quite possible that the switch will keep the light on and brake on until a couple hundred pounds of pressure .

It's a simple oil pressure switch . Try a hydraulic service place maybe.

Oh I see what you mean now, so it dosent have to be identical to the original, basically it only controls the dash light when releaseing and setting the park brake, there is nothing wrong at all with the control valve, the only problem I'm getting is the hydraulic fluid is leaking at force through the  switch, i had a big puddle under my steering wheel, I have got Mill supply looking  for me from the local freightliner store at the moment, but I will take the pressure switch of the valve in a bit and tommorrow, il hobto a local hydraulic store, they may have one, thanks for that, mutch appreciated, cheers

Sure it's not the brake light switch?

Thanks for that info, it's not the switch I'm looking for, I'm looking for the hydraulic pressure switch that operates the parking brake light on dash, but thanks anyway for that because I think I may need a stop light switch aswell, so will keep this info, cheers

Hya all, I think i may have solved the problem with my parking brake pressure switch, a company called sparex make them, and there are lots of outlets in Europe and UK that sell them, for around 11 euro in Holland, yesterday I managed to get hold of a blanking plug to fit temporarily where the switch was, it has a 1/8 inch npt thread, it looks identical to my old switch, anyway at least the blanking plug has stopped the parking valve from leaking, when I release the brake, I had a massive puddle of power steering fluid on the floor inside under the steering wheel, so at least if anyone else on the forum ever have the same problem, then, you will know what the problem is and it is a very cheap fix, il keep you updated when I've got the switch and fitted it, can't see any reason why it won't work

Here is the part no. For the pressure switch for parking, I'm sure it will work, il let you all know when I've fitted it, not expensive at all, it's worth having one for a spare,  even if you never have to use it,

Actually now I have been thinking about this switch, the only problem I may encounter with the switch, would be if it worked in reverse, in other words, my original switch thats broken, has an open circuit between the 2 terminals, when no hydraulic pressure is applied, so when my ignition is switched on, the parking brake comes on, and when i release the brakes, the valve fills up with hydraulic fluid pressure and that must break the circuit in the switch, so the park brake light on the dashboard goes out, now what I'm not sure about, could they have a similar looking switch that did thst works in opposite way round where as there is no circuit in the switch when no pressure, and circuit is there with pressure, in that case my brake park light would be on when brake is released, and off when brakes were applied, or do these pressure switches only ever operate in one direction open circuit under no pressure, and if for some reason it does happen to work in reverse, then all I've lost is £13.00, it's like 50/50 and then il have to search again

The switch specifications should state whether the switch is normally open , or normally closed .
That means that the light is on when at zero pressure (contacts closed)
Light is off at zero pressure ( normally open)

Hya all, the switch I ordered which was a sparex 130534 with a 1/8 npt thread arrived today,  I've just tested it on my meter, and there is an open circuit as it should be, so when I start engine, the park brake warning light will be on as it should, and as soon as I release the park brake, hydraulic pressure will turn the switch to off and parking light will go out,  there's lots of company's on line that sell this part, I ordered mine from a company called Malpas online, the switch and delivery came to £13.66, hope this information might help if anyone else ever needs one,

Just an update, I've just fitted the sparex pressure switch, that I ordered, there is contact when I start engine and parking brake light comes on as it should, but it isn't going out when I release the brakes, Still it was worth trying, il have to carry on looking for the correct part number now, somebody will have one somewhere, it says its an oil pressure switch but perhaps that is what it's meant for, It can be a right headache sometimes searching for various parts,

The specs for the switch may have the PSI rating on it .    Look for a another switch with a lower value.  IF.. you know that your system is building the correct pressure.

I checked my old switch, there was no specs written on it whatsoever, the same with the sparex switch that I got on it at the mo, no writing in small or nothing, but at least now I know that I have the correct one ordered, thanks alot Mike for your help
