HWH pump leak

Since I have owned this coach (2 years) I have had a slow fluid leak coming from the bottom of the motor side of pump assembly. 

Every  now and then I need to open the pump cylinders to purge air.

1) would I be correct to assume there is a seal between the motor and the pump ?

2) anyone have a part number for the seal or size used?

3) if I remove the motor to replace the seal do I need to drain the reservoir first to avoid dumping the fluid into the pan ?

I just joined this forum due to your question. I own a 2023 Coach House motorhome with a HWH slide and leveling system. I have the same questions as you. And had the same problem. But just today i tightened the 2 bolts attaching the motor to the pump and then ran the jack system. So far no leaks.

That's the first thing I checked and they were very tight.

I'm trying to find someone who replaced the seals in the manifold.  Got to be someone on here that has had this leak.

If you are going to change the seal on the shaft of the pump, then yes you would need to remove the fluid from the reservoir.

Thanks for reply. 

I have seen three posts that state you don't need to drain the reservoir when removing the motor (see pic) itself.

Looking closely at the shaft on the motor it would appear there must be a  seal on the male end of the pump shaft inside the manifold. So without having the assembly diagram it makes sense that replacing the pump seal would require the tank drain.

I can't find anything other than replacement o-rings on the HWH site.

Is it pretty straight forward tearing the manifold down and reassembling ? Any advice on this would be appreciated.

I don't think that you need to disassemble the manifold. Once the motor is off you should be able to see the seal on the shaft. If it comes out from the outside you might be able to put a screw in it and pull out the seal. Then drive in a new seal.

So I was just informed by HWH that they do not carry parts for the pump and that I need to replace the pump/motor/tank assembly.

I cannot wrap my head around this cause it's ridiculous.

Surely someone on this forum has had the same issue and was able to replace the seal.

You might try doing a post on IRV2 since that HWH pump was used in more then just Foretravel.  If you do find out, come back here and post your information, then we have it for future reference.

I think Dsd had his motor out when it stopped working and fixed the ground.  I think he had a thread on removing the motor so I know he did not get into the seals but it might help.

Wow! I can't believe that. Some company built that pump/motor combo and there has to be a seal installed. Try calling a hydraulic company and let them know what your problem is.

Slide pump electric motor part numbers

Personally I would see what the seal number is or remove and source the seal by the size. A good hydronic shop will help you order the correct seal

See pic of the manifold.  The red stuff is grease that had liquefied and started running down the block.

I cleaned it up and realized it's not actually leaking.

Found a leak on one of the original black cylinders.  Pulled it out and found some metal particles on the screen. They appear to be parts of the screen. Screen looks good overall.

There are a total of 7 seals on the valve seat.  I'm now trying to source a kit. The one I'm finding on HWHs website does not contain the two flat seals that surround the screen.  I have an email into Pete to see if he can assist.
