Replace or Keep New Hydraulic Pump On Shelf

We received our new OCC pumps this week. Simone said Iit was packed in rust proofing additive and bagged and boxed. Our existing pump is Ok so I'm inclined to leave it the original package as opposed to paying to have it changed out. Thoughts?

My thoughts are to keep your belt tensioner up to the task (running as smoothly as possible).  Hydraulic system serviced.  Devise a catch cage to catch the pulley if things were to come apart.  I'll probably just put mine in the spare parts bin.

Unless you have reason to suspect a problem with your old just leave it alone. There is nothing to be gained by installing the new one.

I have followed ( I believe Bruce's idea ) about building a "catch cage" just in case the pulley lets go.
I am curious though if any of these pulleys are available anywhere?  Would be nice to have a spare pulley to go along with the pump.

The pulley is a Cummins part, somewhere along the line I posted the part number . The hub is supposedly a Foretravel part.

I'm considering a spare  pump as well for our 98 u 295  About how many jars do I need to dig up?

If you don't have it installed, at least keep it in the RV.  Maybe that's what you meant by "on the shelf".

Thanks for doing the research Bruce, I did find your post.
Cummins Pulley # 3046206,  Hub Adapter is FT Part  # P38910.
I think I'm going to try to round them up and have the full pump assembly ready to install if needed.  I hope I never do !

I haven't chased it down yet, but I can't believe that FT had those tapered shaft hubs custom made.

Just to be on the safe side, I went ahead and got the hub from FT.  A little pricey ($115), but now with the pump, hub, and pulley with me, I feel pretty confident about a repair if I ever need it,

I asked FT if they were always going to stock the hub and he stated that they have 2 left in stock and the last order he placed for the hub was in 2015, obviously a low demand item.  Not quite sure what that means as far as restocking goes.

As Bruce stated, it's hard to believe that this hub was made just for FT, but you never know. In my limited search, I couldn't find anything to cross reference it with. Just an FYI.
