Curios why you would choose this one? Replacing like kind? This is an older tech unit still modified sine wave. Also does not have settings for lithium. 100 Amp charger could be limiting if charging a large bank running the generator. For similar cost the Freedom XC series offers newer tech, up to 150-amp charging. and more robust 50-amp transfer relay. Just a thought.

Agree 100%.  OEM in a 2003 would have been a Prosine as well, so the 458 is a big step down.

I would seriously rethink doing a MSW inverter.

I have a 2500 Xantrex Freedom 458 that was installed on my 98 U270 in 2010 by previous owner. It can support some lithium with the Gel2 battery setting, but I certainly wouldn't install it today. When I went to residential fridge I "added" a stand alone pure sine from Windy Nation because the 458 is a modified sine wave inverter. I only kept it because I'm cheap, lazy, and a little intimidated by changing it out. Foretravel put a lot of these in because it was a good physical fit with the original, I have heard.

We replaced our Xantrex ProSine 2500 with the Victron Multiplus 2.  Fitment is the same as the Xantrex.  You don't need a control panel unless you really want one as it is all Bluetooth on your phone.  If you do want a inside panel you have to add some other Victron modules to support that.  Plus you can add the BMV712 which gives you a lot of data on your battery banks both input and output.

I 've been very happy with the Victron multiplus. I'm in a 30 amp spot and the watchdog reported an issue with the 30 amp hookup, so I plugged into the 15a and just set the limit on the victron.  The victron picks up the difference if the loads exceed the supply. I have one in the 91 and the 2004. It will run a rooftop unit if needed. A soft start would make it easier on it, bur you can run a roof unit while driving without having to use the generator.  I hooked them in between the transfer switch and the main panel so the can run eveything.
