Entrance step

I'm replacing my entrance step.
The reason is that it is all rusted out.
I got the new metal step from Foretravel and took the fiberglass cover off the old rusted piece.
I riveted the new one on.
But how do I prevent the water coming in from the rain as I am parked outside sometimes.
I kind of want to do calking but if the water finds its way in it may not be able to get out.
I would rather put in a few holes somewhere to allow the water to drain out.
Any ideas?

Excellent idea.  That is the solution.  With the step cover in the open position note the lowest points, drill small holes in the front and back where they would be out of sight when the cover is closed.  Periodically use something like a pipe cleaner to make sure the holes do not get clogged up.

I bonded the outside fiberglass to the metal step. Foretravel has a drain hole in it but it has to be in the retracted position to work. I added drain holes in the lowest position when in the out extended position. All entry points need to be sealed including the pop rivet centers. Once you have the it sealed up just pour some water on the step and look for the point that it drips off of being the lowest spot. Installing drain hole there at that point. You still want to have the other hole for the retracted position. Bigger drain holes are always better but you don't want to make a home for bugs either. 3/16"? Unfortunately my condensation from the ACs leak right on that step. Need to reroute its draining would help.

When I replaced the rusted step out I had an aluminum made instead of steel. I still drilled the water drain holes but there will be no danger going forward of rust ever occurring
