Porch Light Control Circuit

The Porch light on our 2002 U320 stuck on and would not turn off via the switch.  My search of the forums resulted in me disassembling the handle bottom to ensure that it was dry.  I insulated the ground wire completely but the lights still did not turn off.  I removed the fuse to remove power from the control ckt.  The light turned off.  After I put the fuse back in the light stayed off and worked correctly with the switch for about 30 minutes the light came back on.  I checked and the ground wire was till well insulated and not connected to anything.
Several questions:
1.  How is the ckt supposed to work?  When you ground the ground wire on the handle, how long is the light supposed to stay on.
2. I want to confirm that the control ckt is behind the magazine rack next to the passenger seat.  If so, what has to be removed to gain access?
3. Is there a way to remove the ground input to the controller to just remove that feature and only have the on/off switch?
4. I can't find the ckt on the 12V schematic, any idea what the controller is and if they are still available to purchase.  (if possible I would like to have the replacement in hand before disassembling everything to gain access.
5. Any other ideas that I am missing?
thanks

It's likely an Intellitec Touchlite module.  I'll find the schematics in the Media section momentarily...

There are quite a few square drive screws you will need to remove, but yes, in a 2002/3 it is buried in the magazine rack.  You basically have to remove the entire thing to get to the module.

I've had mine come on a few times and removing the screws that hold the bottom of the handle
and after a few minutes the light will go off. Last week it came on again and I removed the bottom
screw and a few minutes latter the light went out. I filled the screw hole with silicone and put the
screw back in and it has been fine.

thanks for the prompt responses.  I will post my results once I look into the parts and get it fixed.  Thanks again

If you find that removal of the magazine rack becomes necessary, here are some tips.

  • Almost all the screws used in an FT have a #2 square drive head.
  • There are (4) screws (maybe 6) in the magazine section, located behind wooden buttons; the buttons just pop out, and then you will gain access to the screws.
  • On the forward-facing face, you have to remove any switches/plugs/etc. to find hidden screws. Once the items are loose and hanging out, look inside the cutouts they were mounted in; you will find screws that angle back towards the wall; remove/loosen those.
  • Some of the items from the above step can be fed back through the cutouts so you don't have to undo the connections; others you will.
  • The mounting screws can be surprisingly long, you would swear they could poke though the sidewall.
  • Now depending on the year, and assuming you got the correct screws, the rack will either pull off the wall like in a 2000 or lift up and then out like (mounted on wooden L cleats) on a 2003.
  • There is your touch lite control!

Mine has a mind of its own. Sometimes you touch it- it comes on- sometimes not.
