12 volt power into radio/camera unit - device in the middle failed

The Jenson radio unit with camera stopped working.  12 volt from ignition tests good (red wire). Ground is good (black wire).

Now some changing wire colors and a "black box".

Yellow wire into radio unit is supposed to be constant 12 volt on power - no voltage.

From the chassis 12 volt in (good power) it feeds into a black box labeled axxess integrate (green wire power in)  From there red wire out of black box is supposed to pass 12 volt into radio constant on yellow wire 12 volt.  Also a back ground wire on the black box (checked it appears good).

It appears this black box has failed.  If I bypass the black box (axxes integrate) directly to chassis 12 volt into radios yellow wire constant power -- everything appears to work fine.

I'll do a bit more testing, but likely bypass the black box as we travel again tommorow.  Quick internet search and I am still not sure of purpose of the black box.

Possibly an ignition line noise filter ... just a WAG

I don't recall that device, but if you still have the folder of receipts we gave you, check in the 2015 and 2016 timeframe.  I think that's roughly when we replaced the radio head/rear camera.  Maybe it was part of an installation kit for one of those.

Seperate noise filters  on 12V constant and ignition on 12 volt - but good guess.

Edit: while the new unit has small noise filters on both 12V lines - the larger black box may well be OE line filter.

It took me awhile to find it. It was velcroed under the radio unit.

For now I bypassed it. Still have the 2 functions we need most - camera and music from chip card.

I'll put dash back together and check folders later.

Dan, do you remember the old 12 volt noise filters of the early Wanderlodge? This might be a newer version- if everything works when you bypass it.

Checked the Jensen head unit and voyager docs, does not appear related. 2016 folder has no mention (which had the head unit docs)

I think it may have been OEM and simpy not needed with current equipment. No ill effects from bypassing it so far.

It took me a while to find the problem.  The black box was velcroed unter the head unit. Having good power from the ign switch threw  me for a bit until I realized it also needed constant 12V power (helped when I finally looked at the Jenson head unit documents - should have done that 1st).

Tons of wires and cables under the dash to sort through and look around.

I'll still internet search this later. My bet is Steve and Ernie were correct - line noise  filter.

Remains to be seen if gen run while driving using the head unit will create issues with this removed. I think likely not - but we'll see.

Follow up: No degradation to sound/camera with that noise filter bypassed, while running down the road, with or without gen run.

While under the dash today I pulled the failed line filter that was not passing power to head unit/camera.

Cool to see what was inside.  The caps look OK from the picture (but you never know unless you test), I'd guess the Shockley decided to give up.  They probably spent more on that case/logo than the electronics.
