Friendly reminder about carrying spares

Hello all - long time since we've posted on the Forum but do follow regularly.

Amanda and I were driving the coach last Friday on a little 3-hour journey.  With about 15 minutes left, I felt the power steering disappear in the coach, and quickly learned I was going down the highway at 65 with no steering assist and needed to get off the road to figure it out.

We got off safely (coach was surprisingly maneuverable with no power steering), and figured out that we lost a belt.  No problem!  I have spare belts in the basement.

But: I had no 1/2" breaker bar to release the tensioner and install the new belt!  Oops.  Luckily, the owner of Broadway Paul's Antique and Salvage (near Paige, TX on Hwy 290) showed up (it was after-hours), found his own breaker bar, and helped us install the belt and we were on our way - with much-appreciated power steering again.

So - just a reminder to not only carry all your spares (I think there is a good spare list somewhere here on the Forum) - but also the proper tools to use them.  And - if you're ever in the area - stop in and give good old Broadway Paul some business.  He saved us!

Tools - what to carry, and how to carry.  We discussed this topic a few years ago.  Some good ideas in the thread below:

What tool box to carry on RV
1993 U280 SE 40' WTBI, Build: 4359
C8.3 300hp, 6-Speed, Exhaust Brake
960 watts on the roof (6 x 160)
Sorento (or BOLT) on a Kar Kaddy SS

Glad you got off the road safely! I'd imagine that big steering wheel came in handy.

No engine cooling either. If you lost the belt it may be time to look closer at the tensioner??? Hydraulic pumps are scary stuff. $$$
