w1993 U240 Dash Air

On the 1993 models, would the dash a/c refrigerant by R-12 or R-134 (or something else)?

OE was R 12.  No idea if a previous owner may have converted it.

That makes two of us. I cannot remember what to look for on the compressor and elsewhere to determine which refrigerant is configured.

If it was converted to 134a, they should have added new 134a connections. It probably started its life with R12

Would have been r-12 to start with. Its not very likely that it is still filled with the R-12.

At present it doesn't seem to have any refrigerant. I hope it hasn't been converted from R-12, but on the other hand it will be easier to service if it has been.

RandallBrink, if you want, take a picture of your access ports in the front hood area. If it's been converted, we should be able to tell what it had in it before it leaked. If it's 134a, it should have 134a connections.  Let's hope anyway.

check the fittings, 134a converted are different than 12R,  You can still get 12R, but if you intend to keep it have it converted. My 96, when I bought it, the A/c did not work, so I replaced the compressor, no good.  the dryer had ruptured and the little Beads made it all the way to the front of the coach, going under the dash, disconnecting the lines, loading it with carb cleaner and using compressed air to try to push out all the little dryer beads from both directions for over 4 hours, I finally got it to break through and the little beads came flying out, continued to flush it for another 30 minutes until no more beads, put it all back together, dried it out, new dryer, re-charge and finally got it working.  However, it is really only adequate when sitting in the front seats.  running the generator and the two rooftop A/C's works better to cool the entire motorhome.  It was an absolutely miserable job.

Indeed, it may not be worth it if it is that much complicated than simply recharging the system. Thanks!

Our 97 u270 the drier had ruptured and plugged the expansion valve. I tried blowing from each direction and was unable to get it to break free. I finally decided that I would bite the bullet and pull a new line. I took it loose in front and pulled it down through the floor and the beads came rolling out. I then used nitrogen to blow each direction. Installed a new expansion valve and drier and have cold air for the 2 people in the front seat.
