Dash AC condensor fan wiring is cooked

I was crawling under the engine compartment just getting a lay of the land and I noticed that the wiring to my AC condensor fan was completed disconnected.  It looks like it burned off, and maybe some corrosion thrown in for good measure.

The dash AC hasn't been working well, but it wasn't a priority as I am just rounding out my first year of ownership.  Roof ACs work great and it seemed there were bigger concerns until now.

So my plan is to bench test the fan just to see if it still works.  I guess I'm hoping it doesn't and I can be confident replacing it is an appropriate fix, hopefully the only one.  I would have hoped it would trip a breaker before burning the wire off (assuming that's what I'm seeing).

Couple this with talk of the dash AC on this year and model being a one-off with no replacement parts available (not sure what parts that entails...?), and I'm hoping I'm not just getting started in a bigger problem.

You need to pull the fan breaker and replace it as it most likely burnt closed and not tripping.

Morning,
Sounds like the standard green corrosion connection failure.
I would clean up and fix the connection. Then see what you have.
You may have to do away with the plug. Just hard wire it.

Pull the fan and verify it spins.  Mine was locked up solid.  Looks the same as yours too.  FT had the replacement in stock.

After the sticker shock from Foretravel's quote I bought one off Ebay for less than half the price and it has been working for three years now with no problems.

I replace my fan last year and found a fan in a Auto Parts Store.

Update - the fan does not spin.  Found a 16" condensor fan on eBay for about $100 + another $30 to ship.  Looks like my relay is going to be going to be under the bed, so I'll work on locating it and tracking down a part number.

Most any part store has one of those 15 amp breakers. I have posted a part number in the past but can't seem to find it at this moment. If I do find it I will post it for you.

You can purchase them online as well.

Its an auto reset (Type 1) circuit breaker,  standard mount,  w/wings.  15 Amp 'Short Stop' Auto reset Circuit Breaker 12 volt - WiringProducts,...

When my fan started dying, it took out that circuit breaker twice.  It was a 15a, I moved up to a 20a.  When that popped, I bought an auto-resetting breaker.  Rather than popping and needing to be replaced, when it cools down, it resets.  I'd look for one of those.

Well I can't find the post that has the breakers with the mounting wings but the one that have been posted will do the job.

Over-sizing a relay (like 40 amp in place of 15 amp) is perfectly OK (actually better).

It is the FUSE supplying the relay, not relay that protects the wiring, not the relay itself.

My mistake.  I've updated my post to a winged version of the box style breaker.  It can be a 30055-15 Parallel or a 30128-15 Rt. Angle.  Those are the Cole Hersee / LittelFuse part numbers.

The only issue with the resetting I had was it masked the fact that my condenser fan was cycling and not keeping the dash cold. Changed the fan and the breaker doesn't turn off any more.

Agreed.  My fan was dying, which is what caused the breakers to trip/pop.  Then it locked up completely.  Once replaced, no issues since.

I discovered that my dash AC condenser fan was cycling and this thread helped me identify that it was tripping and resetting the circuit breaker about twice a minute.  Who knows how long that's been going on.  My dash AC does work OK since I recharged it last year but I went to charge it again in preparation for a trip to the hot south and discovered this problem.  So here's my dumb question that I probably already know the answer to; since my fan is pulling 21-25 amps and it's on a 15 amp circuit breaker, is that a certainty that the fan motor is bad?  I only ask because it seems to run great: spins easily, makes no unusual noises...
Second question is I see many have said they have sourced new fans at Ebay, auto parts stores, etc. but has anyone found a direct replacement that's the same size, amp draw, mounting bolt pattern, etc. and could you please provide a part number or a link.

I bit the bullet an bought from F.T. before I removed the old one. Once it was out I was able to see many cheaper ones on Rock Auto and Ebay that would have worked.

We ordered this one - same size, mounting bolt, etc.

OEM Dash AC condenser fan CFM?

I ordered it from Competition Products - Performance Engine Parts, Racing Engine Parts and... which was the best price for in-stock at the time (and now I get really cool catalogs in the mail)

As noted in the linked post, Steve did up-size the breaker to 20 amp.  I think technically the OEM fan's specs also called for a larger breaker than 15 amp.

ETA - I checked our e-mail logs, and this is the info from SGM on the replacement fan as of 11/2024, at least for a 2000 FT

I believe what you need is a 1060-029 fan (drawing attached).  If this is the correct fan, you will need to save the feet off of your current fan, to put on this one.  The cost Is $338.82 and I do have stock, part number 1060-029.  If you need new feet, that part number is a 1700-157, and they are $2.71 each

Thank you all for the information.  I would have liked to buy the same fan that Michelle and Steve used but I'm pressed for time.  I got lucky, walked into a local auto parts store and they had a Hayden 3700 which was very similar for 75 bucks. Instructions say to use a 25 amp circuit but i tested the actual amp draw significantly less than outgoing OEM fan.  Now to test it out and top off the charge.
