What is a coach #?

I see reference's to a coach#, what is it and how do I find out what mine is?  I have a sneaking hunch it refers to the number of revisions that have been made to the difference models, looks like we are in the 6000 numbers  ;D

Since there seem to be people here without enough to do, how about compiling a list - models and all the differences.  Should only take a day or two :))

On a serious note, I'd emailed FT and asked for a exact listing of my build, never heard from them.  Is that normal?

Reading the VIN code

It is the coach build number. 6000 being the 6000th coach built.

It took a lot more time than that but here is some information.  :)

Under my dash is a small piece of paper that says "Unit # 5740".  I guess that our coach is the 5,740th one built.

Thanks, found it.  Coincidentally, it's not very far off from the sample you show.

Barry, nice try, but I'd already seen that.  It's no where near a complete list.  Did I mention I wanted pictures  :D

The email I sent was to FT, whatever the "contact us" address was.  I would have at least expected a reply that said not available or something.  For now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe it went into my spam and I missed it.

The build number is only 4 digits. for a 1996 I would guess in the 4800 - 4900 range.

    • All,
      A couple more tidbits:
      The piece of paper stapled under your hinged dash cover contains;
      ·      the FT abbreviation for your Coach's full Model #  (5336............. in my case)
      ·      the initial (factory) front end alignment "As Left" values (Caster Camber & Toe in) (handy to have if you have an alignment done at a truck shop that can't raise FT on the phone right away).
The complete Model # for your coach is stamped into the VIN plate mounted on the wall adjacent to the pilot's seat.  A breakdown of my Model # is shown in the note attached below.
      Regards,
      Neal

Neal,

Thank you.  I no longer have my Sky King decoder ring, so your information helped me.
Does anyone else here know what I am talking about?

and I believe his side kick was Penny.  Only episode I remember is he thwarted the bad guys cause they were hauling water and since it weights more than fuel they overloaded and couldn't get off the ground, or something like that.

Yes, I see I was in error reading the VIN number, but reading it correctly says it would be number 253, and that can't be right either.  Plus I have no hinged dash cover of which Neal speaks, so back to the drawing board.  Never mind, got it - I needed to be looking at the model # and not the VIN number.  (But I still haven't found a hinged dash cover)

Gayland, the large curved (at the top) dashboard is enclosed at the top by an upholstered quarter spherical bubble-like cover.  This is hinged at the back (toward the windshield).  Maybe the latches located at either side of the this dash cover are very tight and will not let you open it.  Place your hands on either side of the cover and pry upwards.  You really want these latches to grip the cover tightly so don't lube them to make opening the cover too easy.

Good luck, you'll be amazed at what you'll find under there!

Okay, I'll give that a try.  Next thing I know you'll be telling me the bed lifts up and there's stuff under there  :P  Okay, I know it lifts up, I've seen the latches, but whats the procedure?  Do I take the mattress off,  or does it have a lift mechanism to balance it out?  I did discover that the padded vertical cover just to the right when you go up the entry lifts off.  Kind of like discovering secret passages  :))

No, you don't take the mattress off.
When you lift up the platform under the mattress there should be gas springs to hold it up.
Besides getting to the engine, there are lots of other goodies under there.

Well the dash lifted right up, the latches don't latch.  I'll use them elsewhere.  I discovered I'm setup for satellite radio if I choose to subscribe.

I could not go on a trip without it.
If you already subscribe then the second one is like half the monthly price.
