Yahoo Forum

FYI this was posted to the Yahoo Forum a few mins ago as a special notice.

Hello All,
I am one of the three moderators here on the Yahoo. The bulk of the new messages are being placed on the new Foreforum.    The address is

http://www.foreforums.com

We have been watching and moderating this Yahoo forum as Steve Cook set up the new one.  The  biggest issue our members addressed was the email issue. That has been solved and  you can now start or respond to a topic via email.  The  instructions are below. Your login for Yahoo is the same log in you will use on Foreforum.

For security reasons (a good thing) they were unable to data-mine the actual e-mail addresses associated with the Yahoo IDs.  We also could not data-mine the passwords, so users will have to set new ones.

IF your user's ID on Yahoo and your Yahoo e-mail match (in other words, if your ID is "bob" and your e-mail is "bob@yahoo.com" AND you have ever posted on the Yahoo group, then yes, your ID will be the same.  All you have to do is log in with your Yahoo ID and no password, then hit "forgot my password" and you will be sent an activation e-mail and can set a new password.

If you have never posted, you were not migrated and can either sign up as a new user or contact Steve via the ForeForum home page instructions or the Yahoo board (and let us know what their Yahoo ID is so we can find them in the Yahoo database).  Signing up as new will be the quickest method.

If your Yahoo ID and e-mail address don't match the pattern above (their e-mail address is NOT TheirYahooID@yahoo.com), you should also contact Steve  (with you Yahoo ID information).  You can also sign up as a new user and then send us a note with your old Yahoo ID and Steve can merge the IDs (this preserves the post count and join date).  Steve's done this for several folks who had multiple Yahoo IDs over the years.  Signing up as a new user is also a great option for those who don't like their current Yahoo ID and want something easier to remember.

We will keep this forum open for a while to facilitate the transfer to the new forum and give you a place to post if you are having a problem logging in.  We all owe Steve and Michelle a big hand for making the transfer a smooth as possible and the great new functionality of the new forum.

Hope to see you on the new forum soon.

Safe travels

John

ForeForums emails:

The email capability is available now in the new forum.  Steve continues to make modifications for improvements.
There are multiple ways to format your profile as to notification via email.  You can receive only those messages from a specific board (Foretravel Tech talk), or you can choose as many of the other boards as you need.  For example, if you are only interested in tech topics as is the current Yahoo forum, then you would set your profile to receive notifications when there is a post for that board and that board only.

Here ís how:

1.  In your profile, the email address you set is the email address to    which the notification will be sent.  The system will check against this email address when you send email replies.  Check this to make sure.
2.  Go to your Profile.
3.  Select drop down menu Modify Profile and pick  Notifications
4.  Select as below and Save Settings.

(no check) Turn topic notification on when you post or reply to a topic.
(check)  When sending notification on a reply or new topic, send the full text in the email.

For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me of:  [select "instantly" or "Daily", or "Weekly"]

For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me of:  [select "only replies(recommended)]

5.  After you save your settings, select the Forum tab in the top main menu
6.  Then select the board you would like to receive Notification when there is a post.
7.  Above the solid blue bar toward the right, select Notify
8.  Test this by selecting the Forums tab again and re-selecting that same board.
9.  Now when you look at the solid blue bar, above it the Unnotify selection will appear.  This means youíre set for that board.
10  Should you not want to continue to receive notifications from that board, then select the Unnotify tab.
11. Repeat as you would like for any other board for which you would like to receive notifications of posts.
12.  Done!
13.  When you receive a Notification email, (whether at your PC or a mobile device) you can reply in your email system, and it will be posted to the correct ForeForum board in which the post was originated.  If you have a Signature set in your Profile, you donít even have to sign your reply as the ForeForum site will add the signature in your profile to the message post.

Now, let us  suppose you are on the road and the only available method of communication is your mobile device and you need to ask a question by starting a new topic in a board such as ìForetravel Tech talkî, etc.  Then:

1.  Ensure that your mobile device default email account is one and the same as in your ForeForum Profile.
2.  The new topic for each board needs to be sent to one of the following email addresses:
    a. foretravel@foreforums.com will post a new topic in Foretravel Discussions
    b. techtalk@foreforums.com will post a new topic in Tech Talk
    c. renovations@foreforums.com will post a new topic in Renovations
    d. classifieds@foreforums.com will post a new topic in Classifieds
    e. firering@foreforums.com will post a new topic in around the fire ring
    f. and emailtest@foreforums.com will post a new topic in the email testing
3.  Type in your email message editor the Topic Name of your query in the Subject line
4.  Type your message and ìSendî
5.  You don't have to sign your name, the system already knows and adds it to your message on the ForeForum site if you have input a signature in your Profile.
6.  A time saving step is to set up all the ForeForum email addresses in No. 2 above in your email system address book to make addressing a new topic in any board easier.

I clicked on the above link and all I see is the above reply.  What gives?  More replies may be posted, but you won't receive any more notifications until you read the topic.  Please explain the above sentence.  It appears to suggest I could read the above email on my iPhone but would not receive further emails in the thread until I went to the Forum website.  I'd also appreciate a definition of the word "notification"  best, paul

Note that the reply below is NOT the reply I sent (the reply below is a single word: "Quote").  The reply I did send is in the web version, but it's not formatted correctly.

Paul,

Looking at the post, it appears you typed your response within the quote block code, that's why it appears as part of the quoted text.  You can go back and modify your post to move your new text to the other side of the endquote to correct the formatting.

Code: [Select]
[quote] the quoted text [/quote] type your text here

The statements in the notifications were discussed at length quite a while ago.  In your profile you must set the "For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me:"  The two options are Instantly and Instantly but only for the first unread reply.

Instantly will send out an email every time a post is made whereas Instantly but only for the first unread reply will send out a single note, indicating there are unread post to a topic .... this option is for those who prefer to browse via the board vs via email.  The message you are asking about indicated that you set your notifications to the latter.  If you actually want to get each post by e-mail, you need to change that to Instantly.

There's also a ForeForum 101 board with more "how to" discussions
