First RV was a 1991 VW Vanagon Westfalia.  Very compact and efficient use of space, but not much faster than the guardrails (96 hp), and not especially reliable.  Had lots of fun trips, though, and much more comfortable/drier/warmer than tents.)
First motorhome was our current 1999 U270.  A definite upgrade from the Westfalia :)).

I bought a 3 year old, at the time, 1986 34' Winnebago Elandon. It had a 454 Chevy up front. I put a Banks exhaust system on and was good to go.
It came with a full size electrically retractable Satellite dish mounted on the roof.
What a project to tune in a TV signal, but lots of fun scanning and seeing what was on each satellite. I spent more time scanning than actually watching something. The system was made by TravelSat. It sure was a attention getter.
Makes me laugh when I see the the in motion sat. systems now.
It was a great Motorhome that my young family( at the time) used a lot. It never let us down.
Now I'm grown up and on a Foretravel hunt!
I think I have the quarry in my sights.

Well, I have been in motorhomes since I was a kid. My parents owned five Revcons from 1972 thru 1985. There was a 1974 FMC bought in 1984 (to restore and re-power with diesel) that never happened. Then a beautiful 1988 35' Vogue diesel pusher. (the first one I drove) great coach but never really handled well.
My first, and current coach is my beloved 1983 Foretravel. I have owned for seventeen years. My wife and I do love the VW westies though and had an '82 diesel with all of 48 H.P. WOW! It was fun and pulled great behind the Foretravel. wish I still had it!

Our first motorhome was a 1972 long wheelbase Dodge van.  It was bright green.  I added a yellow stripe down the sides, and converted the inside.  The whole Turtle Top went up with canvas sides and screened windows.  Two kids slept in bunks up there, and one slept in another bunk above the front seats.  I built the dinette/double bed.  I had to cut a hole in one end so my feet could stick thru.  With a wraparound kitchen area, ice box, Porta Potti and multi-colored polka dot wallpaper, it was to die for.  A big step up from my aunt's umbrella tent.  It was thirty four years before I bought my next motorhome, the one I have now.

Brett

a 1992 Pace Arrow Gaser, then a 1999 Dutch Star Diesel and then our current 2002 42ft Foretravel.  Should have just jump right to the Foretravel.  Would have saved a bunch of $$$ on trade losses.

Man, that's too bad. I wanted one just like it.

I trust you will understand my warped humor. Some folks don't.

We really are glad to have you as a member of the forum and we all appreciate anyone who helps save a Vintaqe Foretravel.

Mike,

Are you saying that the engine is shot and needs to be replaced?  If so, what was in it?  A CAT, Detroit Diesel, or a Cummins? It has a nice paint job, definitely not the original, for a '90.  Right windshield is bad also?  Hopefully, the interior is still the high quality we saw in the early 90's coaches.

Mike,

Nice rig and welcome to the Foretravel family.  Looks like you have a good supply of firewood close at hand for times around the camp fire.

Awesome! You could do another DD 8.2 or do a C5.9, or whatever else you felt like shoehorning in there. That should be an Oshcosh chassis and the factory put all kinds of motors in there!

Mike, That looks like a deal, Paint alone is worth more than that.  Looks like it might be an Oshkosh chassis from the wheel type, I bet a souped Cat 3208 would be an easy fit.  Good luck and please keep us posted.

Mike,  Those graphics are Vinyl over paint ? That's unusual but its attractive, you can probably have a sign shop make up graphics or do a WEB search to find someone to do it.  OR James Stallings would probably be very happy to do a full body paint for you.
