Sliverleaf/Cummins fault codes on the road

On Hwy 380 between Carrizozo and Socorro, NM a yellow lamp light (check engine light) produced 2 VMSpc fault codes: 1) Eng SID 251-2 (power supply- Invalid data)
                  2) Eng SPN 627-2 (Injection power- Invalid data)

Silverleaf was very helpful in providing the Cummins codes:
                  1) 319 Maintenance lamp code. clock not synched
                  2) 434 yellow/voltage low. battery power low

 After restarting the engine I drove for 3 hours without another yellow lamp warning. After contacting Cummins Service in Albuquerque the service managers said that the fault codes showed weak batteries and was I having problems with starting the coach. No difficulties with engine start and batteries check out OK. All battery connections clean and tight.
 I was hoping someone can enlighten me on a possible reason for the check engine warning and the 2 fault codes displayed. At least with the VMSpc I had some idea of what the warning was indicating and not just flying blind!

Maybe a poor/loose connection on the VMSpc data line/connector or on cabling between engine and the data port on side bulkhead.

I had that issue on this coach. It was low voltage and did have a bit of difficulty starting. I replaced the ground bolt and put in a new one and also ran a second cable directly to the starter.  Sometimes it is the splitter that the voltage is going thru that causes the low voltage that the ECM is seeing.

Hey Josh,


I'm afraid I am unable to answer your exact question, however I do have to warn you and anyone else that travels that particular road, that you are NOT the first to have VMS indicators go sounding off.  Considering that about 60 miles west of Socorro is the Great Array, I have often wondered if those radio telescopes just might be at fault in some way.  Yes, I'm serious!  I've traveled that road four times in my RV "career" and everytime I had some peculiar event take place (3 of those times) after I got my Silverleaf system.


BTW, John S & Dave M...it looks like some very lucky person is now the owner of my former Foretravel...you know, I'm just a bit envious too.  So very sorry I had to let that coach go...oh well, that's life! :(

Who knows John, things can always change again.  I have a great little 24 foot Born Free.  It s a great day and weekend tripper.

Knock on wood! No new check engine lights since the one incident. Curious about Hwy 380 because the area the alarm started was as close as you get to the Trinity Site at the White Sands Missile Area. Just couldn't help wondering if the other motorhome events on this Hwy could in some way be related.

It's not outside the realm of possibility.  Radar has been known to cause electromagnetic interference in vehicles before:
