Re: Jake Brake vs PAC Brake vs Retarder? Reply #20 – September 05, 2012, 09:09:10 pm Dave,If I don't have to use the service brakes very often, even on 10% plus grades on the approach to Jackson, WY (with toad), how much better do they have to be? As much as I use the brakes, the pads should last to the next millennium. You just cast a lure for me, didn't you? Pierce Quote Selected

It will be a small cylinder with the piston operating a butterfly valve mounted smack dab in the middle of the exhaust pipe. It won't have a transmission retarder unless I completely misunderstand things. Might have a Jake but I don't have any familiarity with those.Craig Quote Selected
Re: Jake Brake vs PAC Brake vs Retarder? Reply #25 – September 09, 2012, 06:02:42 pm I have the PAC brake on my '94 U240 and I must say it works pretty good. Sill have to hit the foot peddle occasionally but no that much. I live near Pierce and am always going up or downhill. I have not towed a heavy vehicle yet, but do tow about 2800 lbs with my trailer and RZR with no braking on the trailer. So far I am a happy camper with the PAC brake Quote Selected

Probably would be marked Extarger, Retarder, or something along that line. Quote Selected
Re: Jake Brake vs PAC Brake vs Retarder? Reply #28 – September 10, 2012, 12:06:45 pm Yup there is a switch on the lower left part of the dash marked PAC brake and one of the extra fuse spots is used and marked PAC break, So I suppose one of the two previous owners had it installed if it did not come that way.......So glad they did!Steve Quote Selected
